The vision and ambition of Zack Snyder have been a subject of mass fascination for longer than anybody cares to remember. The director whose mind conceived the gritty grandeur of 300 or the dark epic of Justice League was quick to rise to a coveted status in the aftermath of DCEU’s conception. But like all great (or cruel) things, the cinematic universe, its characters, and their creator became corrosive to the masses – giving rise to dissension and birthing radical groups of supporters and critics.

The Ancestry of Amazons and Atlanteans Gets Contested

In the DC universe, god-like beings have long cohabited among humans, acting as their protectors, and serving as the gatekeepers of the veil that separates the human realm from that of gods and monsters. In Snyder’s reimagined lore, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman protects the human world from the wrath of Ares aka God of War, and the Justice League protects Earth from the monsters of Apokolips.

However, what the audience envisions in the grand climactic battles when heroes gather to ward off great evils serves as plenty of catharsis for the collective mind. The collective consciousness doesn’t delve into the fact of such gods existing among humans and remains content with the idea of Atlanteans and Amazons without questioning their arrival on Earth. The director’s job – during the making of a project – is to transgress the norms and boundaries established by the limitations of the stories in order to draw out the best result. Zack Snyder, too, in a version of his reimagined world, dissected his Justice League heroes and traced some steps back to find the root of their origin.

In an idea that has since been scrapped from the SnyderVerse, the director claims that the Amazons and the Atlanteans are descendants of Kryptonians who had long ago crashed on Earth. As such, these natives of Themyscira and Atlantis evolved from the ancient alien beings who have long been forgotten and expanded into the human world a millennia before Superman’s arrival.

Not every idea born from the minds of creators needs to be ingenious sparks of awe and wonder in the audience. However visionary or divisive Snyder’s ambition proved to be for the fans of DC, his shelved ideas for some of the points in the plot progression arcs of his heroes created enough ripples among the masses to turn even some loyalists into opposers.

Recently, Zack Snyder organized a Full Circle event at the AFSP which witnessed a 3-day DCEU marathon of his SnyderVerse epics: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League Snyder’s Cut in IMAX. The event created a massive momentum online for acknowledging the scale at which these movies were originally intended and envisioned to be viewed in theatres.
