The stars of Villeneuve’s 2013 film Prisoners, which he discussed in an earlier interview, featured the 54-year-old and the Marvel star. The choice of Jackman and Gyllenhaal as the stars is what Villeneuve credits for the film’s success.

In Prisoners as Keller Dover, a father who intervenes after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped, Villeneuve admitted that he was first hesitant to cast Jackman in the part.

He, though, was taken aback by Jackman’s portrayal of the character in the film and was certain that the Australian actor could bring the required degree of complexity to the part.
