Dune: Part Two is nearing its release date of March 1st, 2024, slated to adapt the second half of Frank Herbert’s seminal novel of the same name. As the first part of the film was philosophical and slow, the second part of the series is bound to deliver more dramatic and fast-paced action, given that it will adopt the climax of the book.
The second part of Dune will take a more heavy-handed in giving Paul the advantages that he needs to fight the evil Empire and the Harkonnens. This will include a troop of Arakkis’s native sandworms, that the Maud’Dib will deploy in battle against the invading forces of Arakkis.
Paul Atriedes commands the sandworms in battle against the Harkonnens
In the second half of Dune, Paul Atriedes begins living a life with the Freman, even siring a child with his beloved Chani. However, the exposure to Arakkis’s spice-filled air, and then the centuries of breeding intrigue by the Bene Gesserite activate his powers, making him more susceptible to his visions of the future.
Also, given that he has become a part of Freman society, it would merit him to learn to ride sandworms, which is something the Freman do as a regular part of their lifestyle. It is a coming-of-age ritual that Paul also completes, becoming a religious figure among the people. This, combined with his abilities thanks to his mother’s training, make him a formidable figure in the world of Dune.
However, when the Harkonnens come hunting for Paul and slay his eldest child, the Atriedes heir starts a Jihad against the Empire. He employs the sandworms into combat, as if the planet itself had risen up in rebellion with Paul.
Paul’s war with the Harkonnen would be game-changing
Paul Atreides’ war with House Harkonnen and the Padishah Emperor won’t just have consequences for the political landscape of Dune, but will fundamentally change the way the world of Dune functions.
His victory over the emperor not only cements Paul as a divine figure for the Fremen, but it also embarks the people on a galaxy-wide Jihad, cementing the empire for the next thousands of years. As a direct consequence of the war, Paul is married to Irulan Corrino, the daughter of the current Padishah Emperor, Shaddam VI Corrino. She is instrumental to Paul’s reign, taking over the duties of caring for his kids when he is exiled from the Fremen for being blind.
Paul would also sire the next God Emperor of Humanity, one who would usher in a tyrannical but safe dark age. It will eventually be squashed by his descendants from his daughter Ghania, freeing humanity from the controls of prophecies and spice.
