Denis Villeneuve previously spoke about his desire to turn the Dune franchise into a trilogy. The Arrival director told in an interview with the Empire that he wanted to make part two “as fast as possible” and then “wait a few years—until Timothée Chalamet gets a bit older—to do the final installment.”

But it looks like WB has approved his plans for Dune to be a trilogy. However, the studio has not officially confirmed the news. But the rumors are swirling around for quite some time.

As per the reports, Warner Bros. has already greenlit Dune Messiah with a potential release in 2027. Dune Messiah is a science fiction novel written by Frank Herbertthe second in his Dune series of six novels. Even Villeneuve also revealed that he is in the final stages of writing a script for a third installment.

Denis Villeneuve Finalizes Script for The Third Installment of Dune

During a press conference in South Korea (via TongTongCulture), Denis Villeneuve teased that the screenplay for the third Dune film is nearly finished. But he also mentioned that some work still needs to be done. The final film will follow the protagonist, Paul Atreides, as he concludes his journey.

Villeneuve has long expressed his desire to turn Dune into a trilogy. He stated in the same interview with Empire magazine, “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream.” The director expressed high hopes for Part Two before delving more into Part Three. Even though it’s not perfect, he’s more satisfied with the second installment more than the first.

The cast of Dune: Part Two includes the return of stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem.
