Dwayne Johnson turned down two cameo appearances for black Adam

The ever-expanding universe of DCU is making way for the crossover of the characters like in Suicide Squad, The Justice League, among others. As per reports, the makers had plans for Black Adam and The Flash crossover, but Johnson’s team has an issue with it.

As per reports, Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Production has politely declined Johnson’s character cameo in the upcoming Flash movie.

Johnson has also refused to reprise his role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which will release in a few months. His refusal has raised a major conflict as Black Adam is the main rival of Shazam, hence fans were expecting to see them face to face on the screen.

Reportedly, Johnson has a “thinly veiled disdain” for Zachary Levi’s Shazam character. Skyscraper actor has previously said he did not want Black Adam’s cameo in the first Shazam film and requested that a scene of Black Adam be deleted from the film.

As the actor has refused two major cameos of Black Adam in DCU, it seems he wants to create an individual franchise. However, the poor box collection for the movie offers a bleak future for the franchise of the character.

Johnson also shared a tweet about an update on Black Adam,

“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”

James Gunn responded by wishing luck to Johnson and hoping to collaborate soon. With the recent news of Gunn taking over as the new CEO of DCU and, he is involved in planning the next phase, there are potentials for the Black Adam sequel.

Dwayne Johnson sees potential in Black Adam franchise

The movie Black Adam was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, and its approximate box office collection was $390 million. Johnson had high hopes that the movie would turn out to be a massive hit, but with a budget of $195 million and $40 million spent on re-shoot, the result was quite below expectations. As per reports, the actor plans to make Black Adam a multi-year franchise like Captain America. As per Central Intelligence actor, the movie was a success and has potential for a franchise. He said,

“Waited to confirm with financiers before I shared this excellent #BlackAdam news – our film will PROFIT between $52M-$72M. Fact. At almost $400M worldwide we are building our new franchise step by step (first Captain America did $370M) for the DC future.”

While the actor quoted domestic numbers, it is important to note that Black Adam‘s income cannot be considered a global success.
