There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through tons of changes since the first game was released way back in 2002. As the competitor to Call of Duty, the franchise has managed to stand on its own. However, the recent entries in the franchise haven’t quite hit the mark.

After the disappointing start of 2042, many players had lost faith in Electronic Arts (EA) and believed that the franchise was done entirely for. However, EA is beginning to up the heat around the next Battlefield, with the company’s CEO bragging that it’s one of the most ambitious projects to date.

During EA’s latest earnings report, the company gave a couple more details about the Battlefield franchise, the next installment that’s being developed at DICE, and other supportive studios like Motive and Ripple Effect.

EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, went on to label the upcoming Battlefield sequel as one of the company’s top priorities and most ambitious endeavors to date. EA has put together the very best team behind it to deliver an epic shooter game.

This is not just one of our top priorities, it is also one of the most ambitious projects in our history. We have brought together the very best team coupled with the resources and technology they need to deliver an epic Battlefield experience

Let’s be honest: this is something we hear every time when a new Battlefield entry is about to be announced, as EA clearly loves to hype their games with all these marketing terms.

However, it seems like they’re backing this entry in the right way. EA is heavily investing in the development, assembling the largest team ever for the franchise. The franchise has seen over 25 million gamers in the past year, which could be a sign that players are slowly trusting EA again.

It’s time to keep our fingers crossed and hope EA doesn’t drop the ball and doesn’t bring a failure like Battlefield 2042 again, which was a buggy mess on launch. Even though the game is now a more solid shooter, Battlefield has clearly lost the crown to the Call of Duty franchise.

The Next Battlefield Should Make Multiplayer Aspect Free-to-Play

For two decades now, the Call of Duty franchise’s most significant pulling factor has been its multiplayer. While the campaign mode is quite nice, and an additional mode like Zombies is met with positivity, multiplayer has proven to be the main reason why players don’t think even once before dropping money on the latest Call of Duty every year.

If the next Battlefield game wants to snatch the title away from Call of Duty, the franchise needs to switch Activision’s strategy on its head. The next game could bring its core multiplayer aspect for free while charging gamers for the campaign.

Unlike Call of Duty, which brings a battle royale mode free and charges for its multiplayer, the EA game could be the next free-to-play hit.

However, this could be a double-edged sword for the franchise. On the one hand, it would place some incredibly high expectations for the next Battlefield‘s single-player campaign, but it could also reduce pressure from its multiplayer.

If the next title follows in 2042‘s live-service model, then it would be a great idea to make its multiplayer aspect free-to-play.
