Single-player campaigns are only one-half of the story when it comes to Gears of War, and people are expecting a robust online experience. Fans of the series are eager to see how the online component will play out, and some also have suggestions for what they would like to see!

For a shooter’s online modes to be successful, they need to retain players’ attention with smooth gameplay and content updates. The Coalition will have a content roadmap for E-Day’s online modes, but fans are asking for specific inclusions to make a comeback from previous titles.

Last year, Microsoft fixed the original trilogy’s matchmaking servers, allowing players to relive their glory days. Given the refreshed memories, fans want to see the best aspects of the previous games’ online component in Gears of War: E-Day.

One fan of the game has created a four-point list of what they would like to see included in the new game. The first is that they would like the ability to choose their starting assault rifle. The online modes start every player with the same guns, which can be swapped for the weapons that spawn on the map. This can lead to some players harassing other Gears of War players to get the weapon they picked up.

The player would also like to see the return of interactive and dynamic maps. They state that the previous titles had maps with environmental threats, a feature they would like to see brought back. Unreal Engine 5 should also help to greatly enhance the environmental obstacles and threats and take them to the next level.

Gears of War: E-Day Will Turn Back the Clock on the Franchise

The single-player campaign will be a big draw for those who are invested in the story. Fans will see the day the Locust invasion began, and the trailer showed this will be a far grittier experience than previous titles. We are also going to see both Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago in a new way, as they will not be the experienced Locust killers from the previous games.

The trailer for the game appeared as if it would take almost a horror route for its execution. The original trilogy is known for its bombastic gun fights, but it would also be interesting to see some elements of games such as Dead Space added to emphasize the horror of the Locust hordes.

Gears of War: E-Day is slated to release sometime in 2025, and fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the franchise. While it won’t be continuing the story from the fifth title, it will give players a first-hand experience of the inciting events of the later games.

From understanding the complexities of a multilayer narrative to the simply joy of "big gun go boom", my goal is to capture all the emotions in between and put them down in an engaging manner.
