The film is set to build on the events of the Disney Plus series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking over the mantle of Captain America. The film recently debuted some footage at CinemaCon which showed Ford’s Thaddeus Ross as well. However, industry insider Jeff Sneider mentioned that all was not good in the movie.

This week, Sneider mentioned that he had news about the filming of Avengers 5 and that his sources were betting against Sam Raimi helming the upcoming Spider-Man 4 film. He also shared a couple of early feedback for some upcoming Marvel films such as Deadpool and Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World. He said on The Hot Mic,

“I heard Deadpool [and Wolverine] came in really good…that is the early word. Early word on Captain America 4 is not as kind…We are standing by our Javier Bardem prediction as Galactus…So, Blade is going to start shooting in Mexico this summer.”

The fourth film in the Captain America franchise is the first to not star Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and would see Anthony Mackie officially take on the mantel after the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The film has been the subject of multiple reshoots and reportedly also did not do well during a test screening back in 2023.

The Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford starrer Captain America: Brave New World has been in the making for the past two years and has pushed its release dates multiple times. The movie began filming and was wrapped even before this year’s sole theatrical MCU release Deadpool and Wolverine, yet it seems to have a later release date.

The film is directed by Julius Onah, who had previously helmed The Cloverfield Paradox. It is written by Falcon and the Winter Soldier head-writer Malcolm Spellman and co-writer Dustin Musson, with Matthew Orton and Onah doing rewrites. The film also stars Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross, taking over from the late actor William Hurt.

Jeff Sneider reported back in November 2023 that Marvel had planned extensive reshoots for the film after the film did not do well in an early test screening. Sneider mentioned in The Hot Mic podcast,

“Three sequences are being cut and reshoots are being planned from January until May or June [of 2024].”

Recently, the film debuted some footage at this year’s CinemaCon. According to Variety, the footage showed Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross recruiting Sam Wilson to build the new Avengers, confirming that the OG team was inactive. The footage also reportedly showed an action sequence that sees Mackie saving Ford from an assassination attempt at the White House.
