Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has once again ignited the fanbase. In his recent X (formerly Twitter) post, he hinted at new Kameo fighters for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns expansion.

The game’s Kameo fighter mechanic has been a favorite among fans. It allows players to summon supporting characters for powerful combos and unique moves. Ed Boon’s recent post included a poll suggesting that one of  Blanche, Kidd Thunder, Invincible, and Chucky might be the next Kameo character.

The Latest Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters Could Be a Crazy Bunch

The excitement around the Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns expansion has been building, especially after Boon teased potential new Kameo fighters. The Kameo fighters have been a major hit since their first introduction. The first round of DLC content introduced 15 Kameo fighters and now we might get more. 

In a meeting with design we threw around ideas for MK1: YEAR 2 (Khaos Reigns) Kameo Fighters. Some names that came up included:

1. Blanche (MKX old lady)
2. Kidd Thunder (MK2 Raiden Friendship)
3. Invincible (OmniMan's son)
4. Chucky

Boon recently teased several potential additions, including Invincible, Chucky, Blanche, and Kidd Thunder. This mix of characters has gotten fans talking with each fighter bringing something unique to the table.

Invincible, the son of Omni-Man, and Chucky, the iconic horror doll, have been particularly popular choices in Boon’s poll. Invincible’s inclusion seems fitting given his father’s presence in the game, while Chucky’s small stature and terrifying persona make him a perfect candidate for a Kameo fighter rather than a full roster member.

Despite their popularity, none of these characters have been officially confirmed. Boon’s poll probably serves the purpose of gauging fan interest. Whether it influences the final lineup remains to be seen.

The Khaos Reign Expansion is Closer Than Ever

The development of these new Kameo fighters is still in the early stages. Boon’s tweet made it clear that the team at NetherRealm Studios is still brainstorming and that no final decisions have been made. This means that even if a character like Blanche wins the poll, there’s no guarantee she’ll make it into the game.

Instead, they could be introduced gradually as part of the game’s ongoing DLC content. This staggered release strategy has worked well for Mortal Kombat 1 so far. As we approach the release of the Khaos Reigns expansion on September 24, 2024 players can expect more news then.

The Kameo system has already proven to be one of the most innovative additions to Mortal Kombat 1. The possibility of expanding it with characters as varied as the ones in Boon’s poll has definitely gotten fans talking. 

For now, fans can only speculate on what NetherRealm has in store, but if the poll is any indication, there is a lot to look forward to. The stage has been set for the Mortal Kombat Khaos Reigns expansion to be one of the most exciting updates yet.
