Who is Reptile, and why is he being teased by Ed Boon?

Ed Boon Takes To Social Media To Tease Fans With Reptile Maybe

Reptile has been a long-standing character in Mortal Kombat since its first-ever game, but not as a playable character. In the original Mortal Kombat arcade game, Reptile was a hidden character and is considered one of the first secret characters in gaming history, and was conceived by Mortal Combat co-creator Ed Boon, who also had assistance from series character designer John Tobias as they completed his design in less than one day.

Recently Ed Boon has been sharing tweets which have a connection to Reptile in some way as one of his tweets is an image of a restaurant with the caption “The secret ninja Reptile was born here, 31 years ago.” which has caused many fans to believe that a potential character reveal is coming rather soon, but Ed Boon is well known for using misdirection and teasing fans with false information to increase the hype, but this is unlikely as many fans feel that reptile will appear in Mortal Kombat 1 if anything as a secret enemy character again which may become playable in the future.

Will this work in the Mortal Kombat 1 story?

Mortal Kombat 1

In regard to the story of Mortal Kombat, many gamers will be quite scared to jump into the franchise this late into the series as there are already 11 Mortal Kombat games that players can play, but thankfully the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 is an interesting addition to the franchise as the story will take a full reset, which will bring characters who were dead back to life, changing stories that have already been told to have different outcomes and to change the outcomes of battles that have been lost and won.

Throughout the games, Reptile has had a long and ever-changing life as he travels between communities he starts as the last survivor of his race and ends his journey that we know of so far with the ability to talk, which he couldn’t do until Mortal Kombat X and is, unfortunately, missing in Mortal Kombat 11, but Shang Tsung is able to shapeshift into Reptile with a select move, and there are also numerous characters with a similar colour palette which even includes the scales and green eyes.

What do you think about these potential teases from Ed Boon? Are they worth the hype, or will it all fall flat? Let us know if you have missed Reptile and if you’re looking forward to playing as him if he arrives in Mortal Kombat 1!
