Apart from being one of the best anime of all time, One Piece also has several movies which have turned it into a successful franchise. The latest movie to release was One Piece Film: Red, which focused on the father-daughter relationship between Shanks and Uta. These movies are always interesting, with new stories that are different from the plot.
Often, there are several interesting facts related to these movies. One of them related to One Piece Film: Gold is related to its creator, Eiichiro Oda. Eiichiro Oda has a particular favorite band, and he requested them to look after the music and background score of the movie. The band did not deny their greatest fan’s request.
Eiichiro Oda Is Glim Spanky’s Greatest Admirer
One Piece Film: Gold was released on July 15, 2016, in Dubai and July 23, 2016 in Japan. The movie is two hours long and was a breath of fresh air that provided a different plot from the typical pirating adventures. The film was a part of Eiichiro Oda’s creativity, and Hiroaki Miyamoto directed the movie. It was produced by Toei Animation and Yuki Hayashi composed the film score.
The most exciting thing about the film was the theme song, ‘Ikari o Kure yo.’ The song was sung by Glim Spanky. The creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, is a massive fan of the band, and he personally requested them to create a song for his upcoming movie. After hearing the staff’s request, Glim Spanky brought a draft, but they felt something was still missing from the song.
The second time, they mentioned their specific requirements. They wanted something more unrefined and something similar to the American singer Iggy Pop. After knowing the specifics, Glim Spanky came up with ‘Ikari o Kure yo.’ The song became an immediate hit and perfectly captured the theme of the movie. Eiichiro Oda was more than happy with the results.
One Piece Film: Gold Earned A Fortune At The Box Office
After the film’s release, One Piece Film: Gold went on to earn $70.84 million worldwide. It was the highest-grossing movie of the franchise at that time. Everyone loved the film, and Glim Spanky’s voice was like a cherry on top. But it was not an easy task. The last movie of the franchise was released in 2012, so there was pressure upon the producers and the creator to make something for the fans to enjoy.
Thanks to everyone’s best efforts, the movie turned out to be a massive hit and one of the best of the franchise. Eiichiro Oda loves to take part in things related to his magnum opus. Due to his involvement, fans got to see Glim Spanky’s rock and punk genre voice. Strawhat’s journey to the Gran Tesoro, saving Roronoa Zoro from Gild Tesoro’s grasp, and putting an end to his tyranny also proved to be a great plot.
After the initial release in Japan, Funimation bought the rights to the movie and premiered it in the USA and Canada. To date, One Piece Film: Gold is famous for its music, and all the credit goes to Eiichiro Oda for this achievement.
