One of the most anticipated characters in One Piece, Dr. Vegapunk, was finally revealed in the Egghead arc and his personality and character were opposite of what fans thought he would be. The initial part of the story presents him as a ruthless scientist who is up to no good but it turns out to be the exact opposite.

Vegapunk’s character is overly intelligent and he is always busy with one thing or the other. This is why he created the satellites that helped him do other work and also share his brain. This way Vegapunk can focus on the main things while the satellites control and handle other things.

However, not many people know this but Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, may have created this character to showcase his desire to have so many helping hands that are connected to his brain so that he could focus on the manga and not have to worry about his health concerns.

Vegapunk is Based on Eiichiro Oda Himself

Mangaka frequently include themselves in their works, but fans may not have anticipated that the eccentric Dr. Vegapunk was modeled after One Piece’s creator. Perhaps even more legendary than his manga, Oda’s work ethic and productivity allowed him to create an epic that has been going strong for the past 25 years with fewer breaks than anyone could have imagined.

In One Piece chapter 1100, Vegapunk is shown helping out and wishing there were five more of him because his mind is full of ideas that come to him more quickly than he can put them on paper. According to the chapter, Vegapunk constructed his satellites, especially for that purpose.

“My fans are worried about my lack of sleep, but sleep is just a waste of time for me. I prefer to gather information for manga. I want to become a robot that doesn’t need sleep. Even when I go on a trip with my family, I don’t want to sleep much.”
