While FromSoftware’s latest release manages to absorb and showcase the absolute best parts of Elden Ring, it, unfortunately, does the absolute opposite in some respects as well.

Ever since its release last month, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been in deep waters due to defying the expectations of the players, and not in a good way. Owing to that, fans seem to have finally agreed on what the worst part of the Realm of Shadow is that nobody likes.

Rotten Butterflies – One of the Most Hated Items in the Recent Elden Ring DLC

In all fairness to Hidetaka Miyazaki‘s latest release, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion manages to outperform any other pack of additional content released in the industry before, something that was gracefully acknowledged by other studios as well.

However, that does not save it from fan criticisms, as a recent post on the Elden Ring‘s subreddit has finally found a common ground for every single player to agree on, which is deciding on which is the worst spell in the entirety of the recent DLC.

The Rotten Butterflies spell is first encountered in the fight against Romina, Saint of the Bud. The player can then further obtain the spell for themselves by trading in the remembrance of the said boss.

There are arguably many spells and items that gamers have found to be not particularly ‘powerful‘. However, it remains just a little pea in the pond of issues the Elden Ring DLC has found itself in.

Despite being one of the few gaming studios left in the industry that seemingly still cares about the player experience, FromSoftware‘s latest release is facing mixed emotions from fans despite its initial success. It seemingly does not meet some of the expectations they have been holding, especially lore-wise.

The Realm of Shadow puts forward the story of Miquella the Kind and his journey to ascend to godhood, and while the new content does exactly that, it fails to answer many of the questions many have been holding onto since the release of the main game.

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is ultimately a bag of surprises waiting to be fully dissected by players as time moves on.

Despite ignoring many aspects of the main storyline, it also brings to the table many unexpected plot twists, capable of turning even the darkest parts of the game into humorous instead.
