The newest patch for Elden Ring has introduced a long list of changes, some of which are welcome and others quite puzzling. As one of the biggest and best DLCs on the market continues to win accolades, FromSoftware is doing everything possible to win over a majority of the audience.

However, not all the changes implemented in the DLC have been well received. Aside from the buffs, the Elden Ring patch has also nerfed some tools, weapons, and spells. Among the nerfed is one specific spell that many mage builds relied on for both PvP and PvE.

Mage builds have been primarily distance attackers. Some close-quarters spells can be used by mages such as the Carian Slicer, but this puts them within striking distance. The DLC added a spell that could help mages evade attacks while keeping the pressure on, but sadly, the newest Shadow of the Erdtree patch has nerfed its primary function.

Miriam’s Vanishing, which can be acquired from Count Ymir in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, is an evasion spell that functions similarly to Bloodhound’s Step. On casting the spell, the player disappears from view and appears a small distance from wherever they were pointing their analog stick. This not only granted the player invincibility frames but also allowed the mage to quickly follow up with an attack spell.

Unfortunately, the latest patch has reduced the usefulness of the spell by bringing down the invincibility windows when fighting other players. The update may have improved the use of certain spells and incantations, even the least popular ones, but it seems to have taken the opposite approach with this particular one, much to the annoyance of fans.

The great thing about the spell’s invincibility frames was that they allowed players to mix up their gameplay. However, with fewer of these frames, mages are going to have to learn more precise timing and placement to avoid damage. It may prove to be too much of a task for many, who could ditch the spell and just settle for rolling out of the way.

New Patch Greatly Buffs Summons Across the Board

One of the many pet peeves of Elden Ring fans was that the summon variants of many enemies didn’t perform as well as their counterparts we encountered in the world. The newest update has changed this, adding higher poise to almost every summon and upping the attack power, magic power, and health of one particular turret summon.

This should help summons not only land more attacks but also make them an effective barrier against attacks. Specific summons, such as Greatshield Soldiers, already had impressive poise and defense, and the new patch should make them veritable tanks in PvE encounters.

Sadly, the summon buffs do not extend to the best summon in the game, the Mimic Tear. This might be due to the already overpowered nature of the summon. However, the update did fix small issues with the Mimic Tear caused when it uses spells, incantations, and skills.
