Elden Ring, the highly popular action RPG developed by FromSoftware, has garnered widespread acclaim since its release. With the upcoming release of its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s no exaggeration to say that most of the gaming community has its eyes on it.
Amid this exciting atmosphere, an interesting discussion about the player base’s age demographics has suddenly popped up. This started from a short, but simple Reddit post when a 38-year-old shared their 15-year-old nephew’s assertion that the latest FromSoftware title was only for “olds.”

The original poster, a 38-year-old, shared that their 15-year-old nephew claimed the game was only for “olds.” This prompted various responses from Reddit users, with many light-hearted responses and some sharing their earnest experiences with the FromSoftware games.
One user humorously suggested replacing the teen, while another shared a more serious anecdote about introducing the game to their nephew:
Mid 30s. I showed my 14 year old nephew this game last year and he fell in love with it and played through it like 3 times. Since then he’s played through the dark souls trilogy, bloodborne and sekiro several times
One player recounted their experience of starting with Elden Ring at 17 and progressing to other FromSoftware titles, highlighting that age doesn’t have to dictate enjoyment.
What Is the Average Age of Elden Ring’s Fanbase?
A poll conducted on the Elden Ring subreddit back in 2022 attempted to gauge the average age range of players. Out of 2.6 million users, 364 votes were cast. The highest number of votes went to the 25-28 age range (92 votes), followed closely by 21-24 (68 votes) and 29-32 (67 votes).

It has to be said that the poll results have potential bias. The sample size of 364 votes is relatively small compared to the number of users subscribed to the subreddit. Additionally, Reddit users aren’t representative of the entire player population.
Even with these limitations, it’s interesting to have at least a bit of an idea regarding the age demographics of Elden Ring players.
The 25-28 range would be within the range for what’s considered Gen Z, who are now succeeded by the Gen Alpha group that was born anytime between the early 2010s to present time.
Reflecting on these discussions, it’s interesting to consider how age may or may not influence someone’s enjoyment of Elden Ring, or any of the other games from its parent company.
