Elden Ring is the pinnacle of Soulslike games, and FromSoftware did not hold back as they reflected and reintegrated old mechanics from previous titles like Bloodborne. The video game industry has entered a new age with the progression of technology and along the way, developers have gotten creative in utilizing certain features that can help or hamper the players.
Elden Ring Will Bring Back A Feature From Bloodborne
The success of Bloodborne made an impact and Miyazaki identified which systems worked and integrated it with Elden Ring. Engaging optional bosses in combat like Malenia can be a punishment but the reward for defeating her is worth it, unlocking Malenia’s Rune will grant players the mechanic to heal after damaging an enemy that was directly pulled out of Bloodborne. The perks of this rune can pose an extra layer of challenge for players.
It appears that Miyazaki exercises the belief that if something is not broken, then there is nothing to fix. The formula for FromSoftware’s game development is perfect with a few minor tweaks and changes to visuals and more refined gameplay in succeeding installments. The upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will also feature another mechanic from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, another critically acclaimed Soulslike game.
The future of the franchise is looking bright with all the hype and anticipation leading up to the release of Shadow of the Erdtree later this year. Miyazaki promises that the expansion is the largest one FromSoftware has ever worked on and aims to be equal or on par with the base game with some features that were not present with Elden Ring.
Shadow Of The Erdtree Will Elevate Elden Ring Even Higher
Miyazaki, along with his team at FromSoftware games, is credited with pioneering the Soulslike genre – a style of gameplay that has since become a hallmark of modern gaming. Their daring innovation and creative vision have inspired countless other studios to create their unique adaptations of the concept, cementing their place in gaming history as true pioneers of the art form. Various developers released their games that benefitted Miyazaki and used these games as a source of inspiration.
Bloodborne was a perfect game in the Soulslike genre at the time of its release. Its success has been reflected in all the games that have followed. This is a testament to FromSoftware’s consistent approach and their loyalty to the core elements of their games. Reintegrating older game mechanics will provide players with a sense of familiarity and convenience, rather than creating a completely new mechanic for them to learn from scratch.
Elden Ring has taken the title of the best Soulslike game and it is clear that Miyazaki has a much grander vision for the franchise and plans on expanding it further with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion while sticking to the roots and honoring the games that came before like Bloodborne by including older mechanics.
