Elden Ring is a massive open-world game that challenges the average player’s imagination when it comes to all a story-driven title can be. Between its cryptic dialogues and enigmatic world-building, there’s a lot to discover in From Software’s big title.
While Shadow of the Erdtree rightfully brought to light the story of many characters such as Miquella and Messmer, there are several others who deserve much more recognition.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Barely Scratches the Surface
Depending on how much you’ve played the DLC so far, you’ll likely have a lot of questions regarding the lore. Who truly was Marika? How does Miquella still play a role in the Lands Between? Who are the Godskin people?
The answers are never given to us clearly by Hidetaka Miyazaki, or anyone in the FromSoftware team, really. But expansions like Shadow of the Erdtree prove that there’s always that “itch” to tell more stories and build on the game’s incredibly rich lore.
User LightCrimson1 on Reddit talks about this at length. They mention how it’s high time that the studio does something about Marika’s past. After all, Queen Marika is a central character, and her story needs to be told.
Miyazaki HAS to make another Elden Ring DLC

Furthermore, the post also addresses how FromSoftware is basically holding back a “huge lore bomb” that can be dropped through multiple expansions in the future.
The Lands Between’s History Needs to Be Told Through New Stories
While there’s no evidence of another expansion in the future for Elden Ring, it looks like the community is trying to do its best to piece together the information we know about Marika (and others). For instance, Melina is an important character in the base game, but Shadow of the Erdtree barely acknowledges her.
Even though Melina makes an appearance in the game, her impact doesn’t matter at all in the story. To this day, we don’t know why or where there is a sense of purpose. Could we potentially see this in a future DLC? Only time and FromSoftware shall tell.
Similarly, Queen Marika’s family tree is humongous with several characters fighting for (or against) the Greater Will. Unfortunately, we still don’t know who’s the rightful owner and next in line to shape this world’s destiny. Is it the Tarnished, after all?
Although there are seemingly no plans to add further content to Elden Ring‘s universe, it’s best to just keep our fingers crossed and hope Hidetaka Miyazaki gives us more information about these characters at some point.
