The world of Elden Ring holds many mysteries for which even the most intrepid of explorers may never find an answer. Hidetaka Miyazaki builds his worlds in such open-ended ways that there is a lot of room for speculation, which offers his fans a sense of satisfaction but also mild annoyance.

After all, a mystery that doesn’t get solved remains a doubt in the mind of the discoverer. This doubt can eat away at a person, even souring their mood against the developer! While it’s not gotten that bad (yet), one fan has raised a question regarding one particular creature or location in the base game.

Miyazaki’s latest offering is an epic tale of death, betrayal, and a world in turmoil. The Tarnished are tasked with not only instilling their version of order in the world but also taking down several demigods and gods on their journey. However, the usual suspects among demigods are not the only ones to have existed within the history of Elden Ring.

So how come the demi-gods in the walking mausuleums are never mentioned in any way.

Like all other players, Reddit user EntranceReal5928 has encountered the Walking Mausoleums roaming the lands between. These massive mobile structures can replicate the weapons and spells granted by Remembrances. But, as with all Mausoleums, they house a corpse, and the spirits inside are those of Marika’s other children!

That’s right, the spirits in the Mausoleums are those of unnamed demigods, which explains why they can be used to replicate Remembrances. EntranceReal5928’s question is: who were these demigods, and why don’t we learn more about them? It’s simply one of the many unanswered questions in the game, and we may never get a proper explanation. But the community does have some ideas.

However, the more apt response is to follow the principles of every FromSoftware game so far.

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has answered some questions about Queen Marika, especially her early years. But there is still much mystery in the game, and some of these may never get answers.

Over the years, one can track how the studio has implemented new mechanics and gameplay elements across its titles. We can see how Sekiro and Bloodborne have shaped the combat in Elden Ring, and future titles will borrow from the studio’s latest release.

However, Miyazaki has stated that the game’s success has set a very high bar for expectations, one that he is still determined to meet.

He even points to Armored Core VI which reflects the change in direction. It would be difficult to match the size and scope of Elden Ring in a new title, but the studio doesn’t need to always one-up its games.

People are still exploring and finding out new things in the DLC, and we can expect that to continue for a while. FromSoftware is adept at hiding even the biggest details in the most obscure locations, so expect some more revelations soon.
