Fans Say Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Witcher 3 Are Some of the Most Overhyped Games

Fans believe Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most overhyped games.

Reddit users have pointed out several issues with these popular games that they did not like and think if developers had worked on a bit more, maybe they wouldn’t have found the game a waste of time. Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018 and is the third installment in the popular Red Dead series. Fans had loved Red Dead Redemption, and the hype around the game made it almost impossible for anyone to not pick it up but only to get disappointed.

Many allege that the game has the slowest intros ever in video game history, and even though it is a story-driven game, it fails to tell the story in a way that is compelling enough to convince players to play it till the end. Some others also found the gameplay limited and boring, the mission designs rigid, and more. The game was surely loved by many and garnered tons of awards, but it failed to impress several gamers out there who had been hyped about it until they actually played it.

A Reddit user, iosappsrock, stated, “Red Dead 2! God that game is so boring to me. I’ve tried to beat it 4 times now, last time with mods to make it more bearable.” They added that the game had potential, but designers failed to let players experience an open-ended game. Players added that the game never appealed to them and that they would want to wrap up things quickly to play the game. Another fan added their opinion about the horse-riding elements in the game:

SO looked forward to it. But I kept falling asleep every time…

Another popular game players found “a complete snooze” is FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. The game was much hyped, and the fact alone that it was from the developers of the renowned Dark Souls series was enough to get players excited. The game was lauded for its gameplay, impressive open-world, and settings, but it also faced some technical issues, such as bugs and glitches.

Fans called Elden Ring repetitive and its combat boring.

The game scored an average score of 96% on Metacritic but still, many fans think it was overhyped. Reddit user Elegant_Spot_3486 stated:

Elden Ring. Looked good. I’m a big open world fan. There were a few really cool areas and discoveries. I was sadly hoping for more engaging combat. It’s so repetitively boring it just drains my energy.

Redditor 0x4C554C added that the game has an “Empty boring world and uneven gameplay. Bosses are awkwardly designed to be unfair.” This is mostly because the game wants players to level up and come back later to tackle bosses and finish missions, but many found it boring. Another fan said, “Elden ring was my biggest disappointment in a long time.”

Fans also deem CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 as one of the most overhyped games. The game was the sequel to 2011’s The Witcher 2, and players had several expectations from the open-world game with over 100 hours of gameplay. However, many were not impressed by the game’s combat, and the open world was just bland because you were not rewarded enough to explore it.

The Witcher 3 fans hated its open world and awful combat.

The players got so frustrated with the game that they were glad that it finally ended. A Redditor added: “The game got so much hype, I was definitely not expecting such awful combat. The open world ultimately felt kind of pointless to me since there’s no real incentive to go explore the map on your own.” They further added that some players keep on boasting about the game’s storytelling, but it is just “runaround quests largely disjointed from one another.”

These three popular games aren’t the only ones that have left players disappointed despite the hype around them. Many players named Starfield as one of the most overhyped games and even called it vapid and depressing. Even the highly awaited Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not escape the wrath of fans about the hype and what it actually delivered. Players stated that the game felt like it was rushed, and that the storytelling could have been much better.
