As Elden Ring fans wait for Shadow of the Erdtree to drop this year, there are also theories thrown around by them. Fans have been trying to figure out where the lore will go once the DLC drops or if it’ll be a brand-new story for gamers to experience in The Lands Between.
Of all the theories, fans have also started a discussion on whether or not the Erdtree is even real. On Reddit, some fans have posted screengrabs from Elden Ring showing the Erdtree’s glowing trunk, which looks like a hologram.
Elden Ring Fans Wonder If the Erdtree Even Exists
Elden Ring cannot have enough theories as fans continue to discover more details about the game. On Reddit, an Elden Ring fan started a discussion by stating that the Erdtree looks weird from the edge of the bridge to the divine tower, which is located in Limgrave.
The trunk of the Erdtree seemed to be rather transparent, as the towers behind it were visible through it. One of the fans responded by trying to explain what’s happening by reasoning out that the Erdtree is “part real and part spirit.” The comment also stated that the “world of myth and reality were smashed together”.
Another comment mentioned that the Erdtree is a spirit tree and that there’s no illusion to it. The comment also stated that it was pulled from the spirit realm, which could be the origin of the artwork that Elden Ring used to announce Shadow of the Erdtree. Either that or the Erdtree looking the way it does is a result of an “older God dying.”
Other fans commented, stating that the transparency could’ve been deliberate and could reveal a lot about the nature of the Erdtree.
That’s How Render Distance Works
Render distance is the number of pixels visible in an open-world game at a given time. One of the users on Reddit tried to explain the transparency effect by mentioning that’s exactly how rendering distance works and that it could be a glitch. Another user clarified, saying if it was indeed a glitchy effect, FromSoftware Inc. would have fixed it before the game launched or immediately after.
Finally, one other comment shed light on how the Erdtree looks a lot solid up close but only looks transparent from really far away. The comment went on to state that the transparency effect could have been added to the Erdtree just to make it look ethereal, as it does not “fully exist in the physical world.”
All of these theories could imply where the story heads from here, in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, as the DLC itself is titled after the Erdtree. There is still no confirmation on when Elden Ring fans could finally get the DLC, even after close to two years since the game was released.
Gamers could be in for a brand-new story revolving around the Erdtree and also end up learning more about its fate and about a possible sequel to Elden Ring.
