Elden Ring is one of FromSoftware’s most celebrated releases, and very rightly so; the game’s rich world offers some of the most in-depth world-building, and the studio’s signature gameplay makes for a fantastic combo. The title received near universal acclaim and had various features relating to the genre’s accessibility towards novices. The open-world setting also allowed players to switch strategy paths and retreat whenever faced with an insurmountable threat.

Celebrities and public figures like Cole Sprouse and Elon Musk have also mentioned the title. However, even series veterans might not be aware of a celebrity featured in one of FromSoftware’s games because of his love for one of the previous games.

Elden Ring’s distant ancestor, Dark Souls 2, had a famous voice from Star Wars in it

Elden Ring is all the hype ever since its release but the Dark Souls series will always be the OG.

Elden Ring was a title that came after FromSoftware had already had titles that had contributed to the studio’s popularity at the current time. The game saw the studio applying years of experience and iteration to perfect the Soulsborne series and then applying it to an open-world title. The studio also collaborated with George RR Martin, the writer of The Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that was later adapted into the hit TV series Game of Thrones.

Elden Ring was arguably a title that took FromSoftware’s popularity and the impact of the soulsborne genre to the next level. Before Elden Ring, however, came the Dark Souls Trilogy. The second title of the series, Dark Souls 2, had a member in the cast known by the masses for voicing Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Peter Serafinowicz. The actor looked forward to working with the studio after he enjoyed the original Dark Souls and put over 1800 hours into the title.

Considering that the game only takes early triple digits, a little over one hundred hours even to complete it as a completionist, spending 18 times the average time a completionist spends on a title is insane. Also, 1800 hundred hours convert to 75 days, a wild number to clock in.

After giving the phrase “Rookie Numbers” a run for its money, the actor was very amped to work with FromSoftware. Talking to Digital Spy about his experience and expressing his love for the original Dark Souls, the actor stated:

I kept talking about it on my Twitter account, and I got in touch with [Namco Bandai UK] to see if I could get a Dark Souls poster…And I did, and it’s up in my office.

The actor also revealed that after the game’s sequel was announced, the actor was approached by the studio so that he could lend his voice to the game. The actor stated that having spent almost two thousand hours on the game, he had experienced everything it offered. And like any completionist, he was waiting for the next mountain to climb, the next game to complete, and experience through and through.

The actor also mentioned that lending his voice to Mild-Mannered Pate, which, as per him, was a mild-mannered version of the actor himself, was an honor and felt surreal to him. Pate in the video game is also a character that guides the players and advises them of the challenges.

Serafinowicz described his character as:

He’s a character who seems like he might be trying to double cross you, but he might be double bluffing and actually want to help you…I didn’t want to know which of those it was, because I didn’t want to spoil the experience for myself in the game.

The actor also stated that he was concerned about the character and wanted to ensure he gave it his best shot to ensure no rough edges in his performance. Since Serfan was familiar with the game’s setting and environment, having played the last one to death, he wanted to put his best foot forward out of his admiration for the game’s lore.

Elden Ring is a title that similarly impacted the generation that witnessed it. While some SoulsBorne purists may argue that there is nothing like the original Dark Souls, the former is also a masterpiece in its own right.
