With the ever-growing desperation for the upcoming Elden Ring extension pack to finally be released, a minor update on the Steam Backend might have accidentally slipped away the release timeline for the much anticipated DLC titled “Shadow of the Erdtree“.
It has been nearly a year since the Shadow of the Erdtree extension pack was announced for the award-winning Elden Ring, keeping enthusiasts on the edge of their seats ever since. However, in a true FromSoftware marketing fashion, any official update regarding the DLC remains missing.
With the help of the said update in the Steam Backend data VIA SteamDB for the Elden Ring game, it is now easier to theorize just when the extension pack will finally be released, and it is sooner than everybody might think.
What Does The Steam Backend Update Tell Us About The Elden Ring DLC Pack
While it fails to show up on the storefront of the game title, the downloadable content section for the Elden Ring steam page was updated 3 days ago in the backend to contain a file named “Unknown App2778580“. Many believe that this is a huge clue and a hint from the producing studio indicating the release of the expansion pack to be unveiled soon.

It is speculated that the extension pack for Elden Ring might be on its way to be released no later than next month, considering that the AAA title celebrates its second anniversary on February 25th. This also lines up with the announcement of the DLC which was made almost exactly one year ago on 28th February 2023, giving FromSoftware the perfect opportunity to finally release the extension pack.
What Do We Know About The Elden Ring Extension Pack
While FromSoftware has refused to give out any new information ever since the announcement last year, a few hiccups and leaks have allowed fans to know more and precisely speculate just when the extension will finally be released.
What we are essentially talking about here is the leak of a third-party Xbox controller listing on a retail site recently, with the release set for February 2024. The listing mentioned “sync with the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion release“, indicating collaborations with the publishing studio to advertise the DLC. The listing was unfortunately removed from the website shortly.

It is rumored that Shadow of the Erdtree DLC might finally give us an insight and depth into Miquella’s storyline, as he is shown in the key art of the extension pack, riding the Torrent in a grass field.
Many fans also noticed how the Elden Ring YouTube playlist was recently updated by FromSoftware. This, when combined with the other leaks and news in recent times, strongly hints at the Shadow of the Erdtree to be released soon, preferably next month during Elden Ring‘s second-anniversary celebrations.
Elden Ring is available to purchase on Steam.
