Any business, no matter how big, sails or sinks by the grace of its customers. Be it Disney or Starbucks, regardless of the product that is produced, the company’s priority needs to be to cater to the audiences that have supported them throughout. According to podcaster Patrick Bet-David, this is where Disney messed up, leading to the financial mess that has been the last few years for the House of Mouse.
Elon Musk has come out to agree with Bet-David’s assessment, detailing what Disney forgot to do. The one thing that drives businesses is that it cater to the audience that has supported it throughout its lifetime: parents. The assessment came as a tweet, linking a sit down that the podcaster had with Gina Carano, discussing her ordeal with Disney that led to her being removed from The Mandalorian.
Disney forgot about their #1 Customer
The thesis of the tweet very much focuses on the firing of Gina Carano and how it was indicative of a bigger trend that would eventually cause Disney to lose their core audience. Disney fired Gina Carano, who was poised to start her own series after her appearance in The Mandalorian.

The removal came at the heels of a post that Carano put out, which was widely considered to be inappropriate by executives at Disney. Musk has agreed that since the firing, Disney has lost a significant amount of money ($138 billion according to Bet-David’s tweet) to the system that it set up to cater to a section of cancel culture fanatics.
The tweet not only contextualizes the very crux of the problem over at Disney, but also points out how it has permeated into various verticals that it has under it. Be it Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar, the shrinkage of the market was felt by all these properties, mostly because of the shift in the product that moved to cater more to the Left than to parents in general.
Gina Carano’s firing was a telltale sign of the shift at Disney
Gina Carano’s firing from The Mandalorian came at a time when the focus was on the Covid 19 Pandemic when it was being expected of citizens to strictly adhere to the guidelines put down by the CDC to prevent further infections and fatalities. Carano’s comparison of the goings on of the time to certain historical events did not vilify any religious or cultural groups, which is what Disney claimed at the time of their firing.
The House of Mouse became an increasingly left-leaning organization in its time under Bob Chapek, which was reflected in the stories that it took to tell in the wake of the regime change. Parents were concerned about taking their kids to watch Disney films, which was a first for the company, given that it wished to cater to families first.
