Emilia Clarke is widely known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Despite the actress expressing her frustration over the show’s treatment of her character, she was grateful for the friendships she has built with the cast and crew.

In fact, she gifted the showrunners a huge knitted medieval tapestry as a tribute to the creative minds behind the series, but, of course, with a touch of the actress’ humor.

Emilia Clarke Hinted At George R.R. Martin’s Unfinished Game Of Thrones Novel

A post from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that David Benioff and Dan Weiss received a beautiful embroidery from Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, in which humorous inscriptions can be found.

One stated “more blood, less clothes” while another one said “House Martin” as “unwritten.” This definitely meant George R.R. Martin’s unfinished novel that fans have been complaining about.

While it’s true that the writer has been working on The Winds of Winter, the penultimate volume in his book series, it is also taking him more than a decade to actually finish it. He said in an interview via Winter is Coming:

I’ve been working… I’m 12 years late with The Winds of Winter, as we know. I’m just gonna put it right out there, you guys don’t have to pester me about it.”

In a blog post, Martin shared that he has been consistently making progress, though fans should not expect him to finish it sooner.

Writing, rewriting, editing, writing some more. Making steady progress. Not as fast as I would like, certainly not as fast as YOU would like… but progress nonetheless. It keeps me out of trouble.”

At the San Diego Comic-Con, he confirmed that he will not have any cameo scenes in any series until he is finished with the novel. He responded via IGN:

For the last couple years since COVID hit, I’ve barely left my house. Also, you may not know this, but there’s this book I’m writing, and it’s a little late. So I won’t be doing any acting until I finish and deliver that book, and if the show is still running then maybe.”

Along with Clarke, fans are also dying to get a hold of The Winds of Winter. Since Martin could not give a definite release date, avid readers will have to rely on updates from his blog.

Emilia Clarke is, no doubt, one of the few actors from Game of Thrones who actually read the books. In fact, she revealed at the SDCC Panel via YouTube that she tried to keep pace with the novel as they were filming.

After my first audition, I got the first book and devoured it in not too long at a time, and I was obsessed with it and was ready to move on to book two but wanted to be with Dany as we were filming season one.”

After production wrapped up, she celebrated it by reading the next book. So, it is also frustrating for the actress as much as for the fans to wait for a long time before the sixth novel arrives.
