Before being passed on to Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow’s role was initially offered to Emily Blunt. However, the actress denied it due to several reasons. Although now it is difficult to think of anyone but Johansson in the role, it would always intrigue us how John Krasinski’s wife would have looked in the role.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for sending several stars to their iconic status. Actors like Robert Downey Jr. turned into legends for their performances. Emily Blunt was different as she did not accept Marvel’s offer to join the MCU even after being asked more than once.

Before Scarlett Johansson made Black Widow’s character iconic, Blunt was the initial choice for the role. Appearing in an interview with Howard Stern, the Oppenheimer actress claimed that she had contractual obligations to Gulliver’s Travels, which did not let her take the role of Natasha Romanoff.

“I was contracted to do Gulliver’s Travels. I didn’t want to do Gulliver’s Travels. It was a bit of a heartbreak for me because I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do…”

Although she wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr., the actress added that she does not like superhero movies. But the MCU did not stop there and also went on to ask her for the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger. She also cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for denying that role.

Following this, rumors also stated that the actress was allegedly offered the roles of Sue Storm and Captain Marvel. Emily Blunt spoke otherwise and remarked that they were nothing more than rumors.

The rumor mill stated that names like Jodie Comer and Vanessa Kirby were considered by Kevin Feige’s Fortress for the role. As soon as the rumors started gaining heat, Comer stated (via ScreenRant) that she did not know anything. However, she did not outright deny the statement as well and kept the doors open for entering the MCU.
