Just when it seemed that nothing could surpass this career peak for the actress, she found herself moved to tears by a heartfelt compliment from a long-time fan. The fan, who is autistic, told The Amazing Spider-Man actress that she was the one who helped him navigate his ‘lonely’ school life.
Stone appeared alongside Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe in the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed film, which explores the self-discovery and s*xual liberation of Bella Baxter, who’s resurrected to life. Stone is currently nominated for an Oscar for her role at the 96th Academy Awards.
Emma Stone Was Brought To Tears By A Long-Time Fan
Poor Things actress Emma Stone attended a Q&A session with fans at the Curzon Soho studio in London. One audience member had a delightful surprise for the actress, as he revealed that he had been following Stone’s career for nearly 12 years and had watched her recent film six times. He praised Stone’s performances, noting that she consistently “brings electricity to the screen” with her “pure and honest” creations.

The fan went on to explain how the Easy A actress’ performance impacted his personal life. He revealed falling in love with her heart, confidence, strength, and her advocacy for mental health and awareness. He further revealed that he is autistic and had a difficult time finding friends in school. However, Stone’s Saturday Night Live sketches had been a source of solace for him during that time. He shared with Stone (via Daily Mail):
“I have really fell in love with your heart, your confidence, your wicked strength, your advocacy for mental health and awareness. Growing up as one of the very few autistic kids in school, I felt lonely and unable to make friends. During recess, I would sneak inside a computer room to watch your old SNL sketches.”
He further mentioned the Crazy, Stupid, Love actress’ earlier revelations about being insecure about dropping out of high school for her movie career. The fan shared with the emotional Stone that she had been instrumental in providing him comfort and a sense of safety all these years. The fan shared:
“You mentioned on a few occasions that you felt insecure when you didn’t graduate high school and didn’t go to college, but I enjoyed the comfort and the safety that you brought me during those years.”
Emma Stone broke down in tears, as she left the stage to hug the audience member for his kind words. The rest of the audience began applauding for both the actress and the fan. Stone privately told the man, “That was so cute,” before hugging him once again. He handed her a huge bouquet as a token of gratitude.

When Emma Stone returned to the stage after the heartfelt encounter, she asked if the fan had any questions. He asked Stone what message she took from her experience in Poor Things for the rest of her life. The Zombieland actress explained that Bella gets to experience life free from any societal constraints. Bella sees the good and bad in equal measures and explores life with a curiosity for all it has to offer. Stone revealed that this theme touched her deeply, sharing:
“I think Bella too is someone who gets to experience life in a way that isn’t defined by social constructs and she is able to take in life experiences in a completely original way. She sees the good and the bad in equal measure and she is fascinated by what life has to offer and she is not like anybody else and that is deeply inspiring and so I think that is the biggest thing that has touched me most deeply.”
Emma Stone recently won her second Golden Globe Award for Poor Things. She won in the category of Best Actress in a Musical / Comedy. She also won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress, beating Oscar nominees Lily Gladstone, Annette Bening, and Carey Mulligan. Poor Things has received eleven nominations including Best Actress for Stone.
