Amidst the heat between MCU star Scarlet Johansson and Disney, another Hollywood star is considering suing the House of Mouse. In order to capitalize on Premiere Access on its OTT platform, Disney released Cruella parallelly on both theatres and Disney+. The origin story of the classic Disney villain received a great response from the audience. But despite its success, the film failed to meet impressive Box Office results. This sparked notions that the hybrid release had affected its revenue. The most anticipated film under the umbrella of Disney was Black Widow that faced the same fate. Its numbers during the opening weekend were more than impressive for this pandemic. However, things were not so favourable for Scarlet Johansson as her earnings were subject to the Box Office returns. So, without wasting much time, the actress has sued Disney for reportedly breaching her contract.

The studio responded to the claims citing that they adhered to all the conditions written in the contract and the hybrid release did not impact her earnings negatively. “There is no merit whatsoever to this filing,” Disney said in a statement. “The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”Though going against a giant house like Disney may seem like a huge risk, Johansson is receiving tremendous support from several colleagues and artists from the industry. She must be confident of her grounds for challenging one of the biggest production houses. Considering Johansson’s own power as a global figure, Emma Stone’s lawsuit may make the situation more difficult for Disney.
