Emma Stone has been known around the world for portraying the iconic character of Gwen Stacy alongside Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Alongside the Marvel role, Stone has a plethora of notable movies and roles to her name.
Starring alongside Ryan Gosling in La La Land, Stone’s career flourished for a while. After starring in other films, Emma Stone found fame once again by starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ 2023 film Poor Things starring Willem Dafoe. The actress has decided to trust Lanthimos once again, and this time… the reviews for Stone are through the roof!
Emma Stone Is One of a Kind in Kinds of Kindness
Iconic director Yorgos Lanthimos is known for his creative and unique movies that are often twisted and bizarre tales of humans. Relying on the concepts of absurdism, grounded reality, imaginative landscapes, and twisted tales with a hint of fantasy, Lanthimos’ stories are always one of a kind.
The fact was proved once again when Emma Stone worked alongside Lanthimos in his 2023 film Poor Things. Although she had worked with Yorgos Lanthimos before in The Favorite, her performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things took her career one step forward (including an Oscar for Best Actress for Stone).
Taking up the creative with Lanthimos again, Emma Stone revealed a new and weird look for their 2024 film titled Kinds of Kindness. Being three separate tales about the same thing, the premise of the film was already chaotic. However, the early critic reviews are out now, and we’ll let you be the judge of the film!
#KindofKindness is Emma Stone’s most twisted role yet and one of Yorgos Lanthimos’ most bizarre film yet.
Three stories with the cast playing different characters in each that all explore similar themes. Each story increases the level of how insane things can get.

I could not stop thinking about Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness for a week after seeing it. It's dark Yorgos. It's twisted. And Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are absolutely superb. My review from #Cannes https://t.co/FXL72b5653

Upon its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Kinds of Kindness debuted with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which slowly declined to 94% Critic Score. Since it’s a Lanthimos film, it is pretty hard to explain even the gist of this upcoming film. Here’s what the director had to say when he was asked to describe Kinds of Kindness in an interview.
What Yorgos Lanthimos Feels About Kinds of Kindness
The 2 hour 44 minute runtime tells three different stories about the same thing, with actors portraying different roles in different stories. Being described as an anthology, the early reviews say that the film is quite a spectacle to watch.
In an interview with The Guardian, Lanthimos was asked about his working style with Emma Stone. Showering the actress with praises, Yorgos Lanthimos had a lot to say about his films, Emma Stone, and Kinds of Kindness.
Stating that he felt as if Stone was a compatible actress for his films, Lanthimos stated that he simply asked her to star in his 2018 film The Favorite and Stone agreed because she thought the same way too!
I just thought that she had something very special. I’d seen the work that she’d done, and I thought that she would be great for The Favourite. She had seen The Lobster and Dogtooth, and she said, ‘I like what you do, so let’s just do it.’
When asked to describe Kinds of Kindness, here’s what Lanthimos had to say about his film:
It’s a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts. It was almost like making three films, really.
With early reviews and critics’ scores released on the internet, Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s Kinds of Kindness has received a very warm welcome from the audience. The film currently stands at a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDB and a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Kinds of Kindness is currently set for a release date of 21 June 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
