When you become a part of a franchise that runs for years, you walk out of the movie set with memories of a good time. It goes without saying that the cast and crew of Harry Potter grew an unbreakable bond through the eight movies. They laughed together, cried together, and yes, even played pranks on each other. In fact, one time Emma Watson’s prank on Daniel Radcliffe might have crossed a line when she almost made her co-star cry. What could have the lovable Hermione Granger done that almost brought him to tears?
Emma Watson’s Prank Made Daniel Radcliffe Cry
According to Hollywood, Emma Watson once decided to pull a classic Aprils Fool’s prank on Daniel Radcliffe. Although, what she did not realize, was that her harmless little joke held the power to almost reduce the guy to tears.
Radcliffe was a huge fan of the English rock band, The Libertines. The band was formed in 1997 and split in 2004, before reuniting in 2010. However, before the band actually split up, Watson thought it would be a fun April Fool’s joke to tell Radcliffe that his favorite band had broken up. Since it was early in the morning and Radcliffe didn’t check the date, he fell for the prank. The actor recalled his heartbreaking reaction which pushed Watson to confess, as she felt absolutely horrible.
“Emma Watson, when I was like 14, told me that one of my favourite bands had broken up. It was like, really early in the morning so I hadn’t even got that it was April 1st yet… I was a fan of this band called the Libertines, who were very fractious and they might have broken up at any point, and she came in and went, ‘It’s happened, it’s finally happened.’ But she just had to immediately say, ‘No, no, no, it’s a joke, it’s April Fool’s’, because I didn’t cry, but my face was like, ashen… My lip quivered, definitely.”
It looks like Watson could not handle hurting her co-star, even in the name of a prank! This just goes on to say that the Watson-Radcliffe bond was much stronger than we realize!
The Harry Potter Trio Is Still in Contact
Years after the franchise has ended, people might be wondering if Watson, Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint are still in each other’s friend lists. After all, they quite literally grew up together! To answer the question, yes, the trio is still in contact and on good terms, although they do not communicate as often as before.
In an interview with Vogue, Watson stated,
“They both hate WhatsApp and their phones in general. Actually, as a three, we really try and stay off electronics so that doesn’t help for a massive amount of back and forth. We aren’t on a group chat, but we speak individually. Rupert send me pictures of [his daughter] Wednesday, and I die. Dan and I generally try and calm each other’s nerves. We both mainly try and stay out of the limelight so it’s been nice to have each other’s support.”
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you adult friendships! Of course, it is not easy to maintain a constant back-and-forth with your friends when you have your own life to lead. But it’s good to know the three are there for each other when it truly matters.
