Fans have termed the developer selfish and said that it is making the game “pay-to-win” with the new edition. The developer has now released a statement about The Unheard Edition controversy, but instead of helping, it has only made things worse.

Escape from Tarkov’s The Unheard Edition includes exclusive access to content for the players who buy the edition, including a PvE game mode as well as other features such as expanded PMC pockets and increased fence standing, giving players an advantage over others.

The steep price of the new edition and these features have not gone well with the community, and there’s a lot of backlash. The COO of Battlestate Games, Nikita Buyanov, has now responded to the controversy via a statement on the official EscapefromTarkov subreddit. The developer addressed the concerns of the Edge of Darkness (EoD) edition owners and the PvE mode.

Essentially, the studio stands by its decision about the new edition and says that the new mode is not a DLC. The studio added that the PvE mode will be free to “all owners of the EoD version at the release of the game.”

Battlestate Games is also giving a 50% discount to all EoD owners if they want to upgrade to the new edition, and it also plans to send one free Left Behind Edition key to players upgrading to The Unheard Edition at the old price from the EoD version.

The Statement Only Added Fuel to the Already Raging Fire

Moreover, for the items that the community doesn’t find right for the game, the studio plans to “make restrictive or balancing changes for these items.” However, the fans’ response isn’t what the developer would have expected, and now they are more furious than ever, asking Battlestate to make the game mode free for all players.

Players have said that since the new mode wasn’t in the game, it is a major addition and should be made free. One player said that this statement is “very tone deaf and arrogant” and developers should not be charging any money after promising players that they will get access to “all subsequent DLCs” with the EoD version.

One player just did not entertain the response, saying, “WRONG, try again tomorrow,” while another player added that “trust is gone.” User Cdillio said that the developer keeps on gaslighting the players, adding, “How to kill your insanely popular 7 year old game in 2 days. (And maybe open yourself to lawsuits).”

Some also said that even if all the players bought the new edition, the server couldn’t handle it, adding that the “idiotic company doesn’t deserve the player base it has.”
