Kumail Nanjiani played Kingo in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals and has since then been eyeing other roles as well to expand his superhero skills. His reason for choosing the character also remains to be just as interesting and unique. While he has stated that he would like to join the DC Universe and have his movie, it would not be of a character who holds a major burden of responsibility over his shoulders. James Gunn is still setting up the new DCU and it would not be a surprise to see various underrated characters make an appearance in the franchise.

Kumail Nanjiani Wants To Play Ambush Bug In The DCU

Kumail Nanjiani has recently shown interest in playing another superhero and the one he eyed happened to be none other than Ambush Bug. While the character itself is not that well recognized, he has a persona similar to that of Deadpool. Nanjiani referred to the character as a reporter and elaborated on how he is weird.

“Because there’s no pressure on it, you know? If I do Superman, everybody’s got a different idea of Superman and if it doesn’t match up, they’re upset. Ambush Bug, nobody cares about.”

The actor confirmed that the idea to take up Ambush Bug instead of a mainstream hero or villain was to escape the expectations that the fans might have. Keith Giffin first created the character in 1982 and he caught the actor’s eye. His quirky attitude and humorous tone to his being make Ambush Bug’s character very much interesting for him. The hunt for DCU’s Superman is yet to begin, and every other new character will also be taken into consideration soon enough. So perhaps Nanjiani has a chance to bring the character to life.

Who Is Ambush Bug?

Irwin Schwab was an ordinary person who suffered from mental illnesses which prevented him from understanding reality and made him seem as if his true identity was a delusion. It was believed that he was being sent clothes from his planet Schwab. On its way, the clothes got intercepted by a space spider which then crashed, in it, the character found the Ambush Bug suit and his later arriving nemesis ‘Argh! Yle!.’

He was written while keeping in mind to develop a villainous version of Buggs Bunny. However, this character managed to achieve a lot and make a place in various teams like Justice League of Anarchy and Suicide Squad. He, later on, joined the Doom Patrol where during his final adventures in Oolong Island, he manages to defeat Mr. Somebody by spoiling the news of the upcoming Flashpoint series and the new Doom Patrol series getting canceled into his ear.

His natural powers are amusingly unlucky and mentally insane, making him an incompetent adventurer, but also creating awareness about the fourth wall. His suit grants him the power of invulnerability and also teleportation.
