The James Bond franchise has taken a solid turn over the years, as the films kept changing the face of the movie. From Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, several actors dissected the iconic role in their own way. But when it came to Pierce Brosnan, the actor felt he could have done more justice to the character.
Being the fifth actor to star in four James Bond movies, Pierce Brosnan recalled his sudden exit from the franchise, as producers sought a new face – Daniel Craig. Although Brosnan held grudges, he was curious to check out the actor’s interpretation of the character. And to his surprise, he had to admit one thing that Craig did better.
Pierce Brosnan Was Curious To Watch Daniel Craig’s James Bond
Pierce Brosnan has always been proud of his role in the James Bond franchise, but something changed in him after he got booted from the movies, as producers sought a new face. Being candid about the experience, the actor mentioned how the news came to him as a shock especially since there were serious talks of him doing a fifth Bond film.
“It’s totally changed since Daniel Craig is playing it. They wanted to modernize Bond. I didn’t stop voluntarily. We talked about a fifth movie and then came the call that I am out. Total change of direction. That was very hard.” Brosnan told Kurier (via Contact Music).
Thereafter, Pierce Brosnan became even more curious to see why the producers kicked him to choose Daniel Craig. Willing to watch Craig’s interpretation of the iconic character, despite his grudge, the actor tried to play the movies several times. However, each time Brosnan experienced some sort of setback.
“I haven’t seen Daniel in the role. I tried watching it on an airplane. I thought 37,000 feet was a good distance to watch it from and it broke down right at the beginning.”
Brosnan quipped that this convinced him that he just wasn’t meant to see Daniel Craig’s James Bond films. He felt as though The Gods were sending him a message and stopping him from watching the movies.
Pierce Brosnan Had Nothing But Praise For Daniel Craig
However, later on, with time Pierce Brosnan eventually got the opportunity to watch Daniel Craig’s movies. The actor was shocked to witness Craig’s take on the character as well as the action sequences. And ever since he watched the new James Bond movies, he had nothing but praise for the actor.
Although Pierce Brosnan initially held grudges after getting booted from the franchise, he later understood why the producers chose Daniel Craig. After watching the movies, Brosnan eventually admitted that Craig did one thing better than he could. Praising the Casino Royale actor for his performance, Brosnan admitted that his physicality was monumental.
“I have the greatest admiration for Daniel Craig and what he did. The physicality he brought to the performance was monumental,” Brosnan told GQ.
Enjoying a couple of Daniel Craig’s movies, Pierce Brosnan claimed that Skyfall was his favorite. Having nothing but praise for the actor, Brosnan quipped that Craig did the stunts better than him, for he was often scared of heights, water, and such. Eventually, even Craig’s time in the franchise came to an end with No Time to Die, just like Brosnan’s.
