And with the release of the movie in the US, several predictions have been made that might give us an idea of how it’s going to perform at the box office on its opening weekend. Surprisingly, these predictions have been less than stellar, so bad that even The Marvels’ box office collection might be more than the $22-$25 Million Johnson’s film will receive on the first weekend.

The Box Office For Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web Seems To Be In Dire Straits Even In Comparison To The Marvels

With the era of Superhero Fatigue seeping into the general public, it’s becoming more and more difficult for a comic book film to find its footing at the box office in recent times. Even with the MCU, the biggest outlet for these projects to thrive has fallen short of delivering what it has in the past, most notable of them all is Brie Larson‘s The Marvels, the film that was the franchise’s biggest flop with a mere $206 Million at the box office on a budget of $220 Million.

But this hasn’t demoralized the rest to sit back and watch, which is why Sony has released their upcoming Spider-Verse film Madame Web in the US on the 14th and will be doing it globally this coming Friday.

However, according to critics and reviewers, the likelihood of this Dakota Johnson starrer being something exceptional is highly unlikely, so much so that the day-one box office predictions of the film put the first total domestic weekend amount around $22-$25 Million, which is just slightly more than The Marvels‘ $21.5 Million on day one.

If these predictions are right, and the film goes on to gross these numbers on the opening day, then the overall theatrical run might prove to be a massive disappointment for the developing franchise by Sony. While this film may only have a budget of $80-100 Million, these numbers may seem satisfactory at first, but fans need to remember that to even break, the film will require to make at least 2.5X at the box office, which is a tall order.

Expanding upon the Spider-Verse it has been creating for the past few years, Sony is now bringing the true Spider-Man multiversal experience with the introduction of Madame Web into the franchise.

The film tells the tale of a young female EMT named Cassandra Web and during a deadly rescue operation, she has a near-death experience. During this time being suspended between consciousness and unconsciousness, she gains the powers of clairvoyance and promotions, enabling her to see everything that has happened and will happen, interconnected events that are tied to each other with webs.

This power also allows her to find others with latent superpowers, but also attract the attention of evil in the process.
