Marvel Comics is home to several powerhouses. While some have immeasurable raw strength, others are more mystical in nature. We have witnessed both of these to some extent in the MCU, but the horizons of power levels have expanded way beyond our imaginations once the Infinity saga ended and the Multiverse saga began.

We have seen glimpses of these kinds of powers in What If…? and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. And in both of them, and even during the Infinity saga, Doctor Strange was perhaps one of the strongest characters on the roster. However, there are other kinds of forces in Marvel that can even overpower the once Sorcerer Supreme.

One of them will be debuting in Pedro Pascal’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie, as Galactus will be making his way to earth, introducing a new kind of force: the Power Cosmic.

MCU announces casting for Galactus in Fantastic Four

Once the Deadpool & Wolverine hype is over, Marvel fans have a lot of anticipated projects to look out for. One of them is of course Pedro Pascal‘s Fantastic Four film, which will finally bring Marvel’s first family to the MCU. And the casting for the main antagonist of the film was just announced.

The Witch star Ralph Ineson has been roped in to play MCU’s Galactus in the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Ineson has an extensive resume that ranges from fantasies like Game of Thrones and Harry Potter to critically acclaimed projects like The Green Knight and The First Omen, proving he’s more than capable of playing the role.

The presence of Galactus is going to bring several previously unseen cosmic elements to the MCU, including one of the most powerful forces from Marvel comics.

What is the Power Cosmic?

The Power Cosmic is a primordial force that has existed since even before the Big Bang itself. It is what turned Galan of Taa into the planet-devouring Galactus. It is one of the most powerful forces in Marvel comics, giving its wielder incomprehensible levels and varieties of powers such as shape-shifting, super strength, super speed, matter manipulation, invulnerability, flight, etc.

The one who wields the power cosmic has his original being altered and enhanced to a great degree, sometimes even rendering them unrecognizable. There is always some side-effect of such power though – like Galactus’ insatiable hunger that leads him to devour planets.

This power cosmic can also be shared with other individuals to some extent. For example, Galactus shares a part of his power with his ‘Heralds’, who themselves become cosmically powered beings and do his bidding of looking for planets for him to eat. And one of them is the Silver Surfer.

The Power Cosmic is much stronger than anything Doctor Strange has in his arsenal. Even beings like Thanos are afraid of taking on Galactus 1v1, and Strange struggled against The Mad Titan. The Power Cosmic is on par with the Phoenix Force, which is also one of the strongest forces in Marvel comics, capable of destruction on a universal scale. Even Dormammu, the god of the Dark Dimension from where Strange draws his power, is no match for Galactus, which was made pretty clear in Doctor Strange #15.

However, there are still ways Doctor Strange can get an upper hand on Galactus. In Fantastic Four #243, Doctor Strange was able to take down Galactus mentally by casting “Images of Ikonn”, forcing him to see ghosts of all the people he has killed while devouring planets, which causes him to flee in terror.

As the picture of Fantastic Four‘s production becomes clearer, more details are sure to follow. And it will be a delight to witness the Power Cosmic on the silver screen.
