Jackie Chan has seemingly everything in life. The actor has a reported net worth of $400 million that he has amassed from movies and a variety of other businesses. When Jackie Chan Publicly Apologized For His Son’s Actions
Jackie Chan has been married to his wife Joan Lin since 1982. He has one son, Jaycee Chan, with her. The Police Story actor once publicly said that his son has grown up with the kind of riches and luxury that he never had. However, it looks like all the comforts couldn’t stop Jaycee from doing the one thing he shouldn’t have- drugs.
He tested positive for using, possessing, and distributing illicit drugs. Due to this, he had to spend six months in prison as well as pay a fine. Also, his father had to give an embarrassing apology. Chan said:
“I hope young people will take a lesson from Zuming (Jaycee) and stay away from drugs. I failed to be a good father and I deserve the blame. I will take the responsibility and apologize to [the] public on behalf of Jaycee.”
Jaycee too gave a grovelling statement in court where he said that he felt ashamed for what he had done. The son of the famous star said:
“I have broken the law and should be punished. When I return to society, I will not repeat this because I have let my family and friends down yet again.”
But why did Jackie Chan have to apologize for something that his son did? Also, why couldn’t The Forbidden Kingdom star’s vast fortune save his son from getting imprisoned? The answer probably lies in Chan’s affiliations.
Why Did Jackie Chan Apologize For His Son’s Illegal Actions?
The reason why Jackie Chan had to give a public apology on behalf of his son even though he hadn’t done anything was because he was appointed as the Narcotics Control Ambassador in the year 2009. So the possession of drugs by his son was an embarrassing incident not just for him but also for law enforcement.
If the Rush Hour actor hadn’t given the apology, then his reputation would have been in tatters in front of the government as well as the public. Not to mention the fact that it would have been embarrassing for law enforcement as well. So no amount of money would have prevented him from encountering this social shame. However, there haven’t been any such incidents from then on.
