Chavez is one of the most celebrated Mexican boxers of all time. He has a professional record of 107-6-2. The boxer made his debut at the age of 17 and fought for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2001 after victory over Terry Thomas in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Reportedly, Chavez had partying issues. Speaking to a Mexican journalist Yordi Rosado about his sobriety, the boxer said that at a victory party in 1992, he asked notorious drug lords, including El Chapo Guzman, to leave his victory party because they didn’t bring any cocaine.

“There were about one thousand years worth of jail time the day I defeated ‘Macho’ Camacho. And they all wanted to meet me and I was standing in the middle,” Chavez said, via The Daily Mail

“All of them were talking about how the ‘Macho’ Camacho fight played out until I got upset. All I wanted was coke.

There were about 300 armed b***rds there, but nobody had coke. So I told them, ‘Since nobody brought coke, you can all go to hell.’”

His son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. could not carry the legacy of his father due to the same partying issues his father had.
