Mark Wahlberg’s 2017 movie Transformers: The Last Knight did not fare well with the audience after it was heavily slammed by fans and critics. The installment was even blamed for killing the long-enduring franchise that Shia LaBeouf started.
To make matters worse, the film bagged eight Razzie awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Screenplay. While that seemed very humiliating, nothing is more embarrassing than winning every category, a feat that Al Pacino’s movie did.
Al Pacino’s Jack And Jill Beat Mark Wahlberg’s Transformers At The Razzie Awards
For the first time in the history of Razzie Awards, one movie bagged every single Golden Raspberry category, and that is 2011’s Jack and Jill. It stars Adam Sandler, Al Pacino, and Katie Holmes, three huge names in the industry.
The film took home a total of 10 awards, including Worst Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Director, Screen Ensemble, Screen Couple, Screenplay, and even the Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
Speaking with GQ, Pacino admitted that his decision to agree to the project, despite having a premonition that it was bound to fail, was encouraged by the need to boost his self-esteem.
“You know what? I may be falling into a bad habit now. I think I’m starting to get a little perverse. I’m starting to want to do films that aren’t really very good and try to make them better. And that’s become my challenge.”
Pacino is one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood, even regarded for starring in highly acclaimed movies. He is a favorite collaborator of many veteran filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, and Martin Scorsese, and it is hard to believe that he would risk his reputation and career just to satisfy an impulse.
Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg has definitely starred in a lot of movies that flopped critically and commercially. Some of his notably worst-performing films include The Happening, Mile 22, and The Corruptor.
Transformers: The Last Knight ended up becoming a box office bomb due to its redundant storyline, too many subplots, dumb characters, and cringe humor. No wonder it earned almost all of the Razzie awards.
Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables 4 Racks Up Razzie Awards
Contenders for the Golden Raspberry Awards are usually revealed a day before Oscar nominations are announced and one of the not-so-shocking titles in the list was Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham’s The Expendables 4.
The fourth installment in the action franchise garnered seven nominations in the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor for Stallone, and Worst Director for Scott Waugh.
This is definitely a bad look at the ensemble action thriller franchise that Stallone built for many years. It was the film that united beloved action stars from the ‘80s to the present. Due to creative differences and disagreements about the screenplay, he only had a brief scene in the fourth film and left the franchise altogether.
Like Mark Wahlberg’s Transformers, the first three movies of The Expendables were loved by fans. Now, it seems that these treasured franchises have already headed for doom.
