Game of Thrones was a series which had people in a chokehold for years. The epic-scale political drama had all the things needed to make a good fantasy show- dragons, interesting characters, and conspiracies. Fans were thrilled as the show went on for seven spectacular seasons, but the ending of the show took everyone by surprise.
Season eight took a weird turn with its ending not satisfying the expectations of fans; even many actors from the show were unhappy. Charles Dance who played a major role in GoT, spoke to fans saying he would sign a petition to redo the entire season finale. Just like the fans, the show’s finale disappointed the actor who had invested several years in it.
The Iron Throne of discontent: what went wrong?
Game of Thrones is one of the most successful shows from HBO. The series with its intriguing characters, diverse plot points, and epic world-building, had all it took to become a great fantasy show. After the success of the show, a new spin-off series, House of the Dragon, was released which created its own popularity.
However, the show’s conclusion became a head-scratcher for many fans who didn’t agree with the ending. Emilia Clarke portrayed the role of Daenerys Targaryen, who in the final season, succumbed to her death after losing her sanity. This storyline felt absurd to the fans of the show who felt that the makers were hasty in their decision to tie the loose threads.
Please inform us when the petition is up so we can all sign it. Season 8 was a travesty and must be expunged 🤭😭😩🤣 pic.twitter.com/zgl85Vp4GO

There were many who were hoping for a better ending for Clarke’s character, who was then left unsatisfied by her demise. Some fans felt that several plot lines went unexplored and minor characters were side-lined at the end. This ending felt incomplete and unsatisfactory for the audience.
A King’s Plea: Charles Dance joins the call for a redo
One of the show’s major characters, Tywin Lannister, was played by the iconic actor Charles Dance. Though he left the show after his character’s demise in season four, the actor was heavily invested in the show’s further development.

Recently while speaking with PopCulture.com (via People), Dance said that he was one of the many people who felt the show’s ending could have been better. The actor went on to claim that if it warranted a better ending, he would be willing to sign a petition for a redo.
I loved it; there were storylines [where] I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people! I know that the finale satisfied a lot of people. It also disappointed a lot of people, and I’m afraid I am in the latter camp.
The Dracula Untold lead acknowledged the feelings of fans who were similarly discontent with the lackluster ending. GoT gained a huge fandom, with its characters and famous dialogue being remembered even after years. The actor also expressed his gratitude for being a part of the show and said it should have had a better ending with fans in mind.
The scenery and events of Westeros and the King’s Landing are still fresh in fan’s minds. Several posts on social media call for a redo of the season finale which would have established the show as one of the greatest ever. Only time will tell if their request will be heard by the makers or if fans have to wait for George R.R. Martin‘s ending to be satisfied.
Game of Thrones is currently available to watch on Max.
