Warner Bros. has officially lost all hope from their upcoming Aquaman 2. The Jason Momoa starrer is all set to end the DCEU to let way for the revamped universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran. From the track records of the past DC projects, it can’t be denied that the universe has been suffering a lot following the disastrous Justice League.
It has been recently announced that Warner Bros. would not hold any red carpet premiere for Aquaman 2. It’s only limited to a small event for the fans and press with Jason Momoa and James Wan.
The news has upset some DC fans who aren’t happy with the treatment received by the movie. Aquaman is the only billion-dollar movie in the whole DCEU slate and it can’t be denied that the sequel didn’t receive such a treatment.

Aquaman 2 would not get any special premiere
According to Comicbook.com, Aquaman 2 would not receive any red-carpet premiere or afterparty. Instead, Jason Momoa and James Wan have been spotted in some small fan events and special screenings for the press. Following the abysmal runs of The Flash and Shazam 2, seems like DC wants to let go of this slate as fast as they can and prepare the fans for a new age.
Speaking about the fan event, The Hollywood Reporter’s senior writer Borys Kit replied in a tweet to reveal how the failed universe ended with a “whimper” instead of a “bang”. He described the event attended by Jason Momoa and James Wan as a small neat fan event at The Grove LA.
And thus the DCEU ends, not with a bang but a whimper. No red carpet premiere, no afterparty, just a small (but neat) pre-reception, a “fan screening,” and only Jason Momoa and James Wan at the Grove to close out a veritable era… https://t.co/e5BXUKrsoz

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see Arthur Curry joining hands with imprisoned brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson to defeat Black Manta. Accompanied by the Black Trident’s power, it would not be easy for the ruler of Atlantis to defeat Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s villain in the sequel. It was reported that the film was subjected to bad test scores during the test screenings which led to several reshoots.

Will Jason Momoa return as Aquaman?
It has been rumored for a long time that Jason Momoa wants to play Lobo in the DC Universe. Looks like the Lobo rumors might turn out true as it has been already reported that none of Zack Snyder’s DCEU heroes would return to James Gunn’s universe.
During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Jason Momoa stated that although he doesn’t want it to end, James Gunn and Peter Safran have other plans.
“I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice.”
Later in the interview, the Game of Thrones actor didn’t shy away from admitting that it was ultimately the audience who would decide the fate of the movie- “The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility”. However, both Momoa and the box office predictions don’t hint at a fruitful future for the movie.
As if the Amber Heard controversy wasn’t enough for the movie, the recent condition of DC and the poor test screening reports also add up to the potential troubles for Aquaman 2. Although James Wan has tried to state that the reports about repeated reshoots aren’t fully true, it will be seen if the movie can end the DCEU with a bang.
Aquaman 2 will be released on December 22, 2023.
