Millie Bobby Brown is one of the hottest properties in Hollywood right now. The 19-year-old British actress is enjoying a career in which she’s guest-appeared in television shows like Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, and, of course as a leading cast member in Stranger Things, and movies like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Enola Holmes, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Enola Holmes 2.
Her fame will explode in the next few years, and she already has a few acting projects set in stone. They include some great series and films. This piece will list all of them and explain why everyone should be excited about them.
Stranger Things (Season 5)
The fantastic sci-fi horror drama Stranger Things is the series that made Millie Bobby Brown famous. Taking inspiration from Steven Spielberg’s back catalog and all things 1980s, it’s an exciting, emotional, terrifying show with a terrific cast of characters. Brown plays one of the main characters, Eleven, AKA El, AKA Jane Hopper, a young girl with telekinetic and psychokinetic abilities, after having been subjected to experimentation in Hawkins National Laboratory.
Few people need to be told why this should excite people. Stranger Things is a cultural phenomenon that’s received widespread critical praise, and Brown is superb in her role as El. Moreover, season 5 will be the show’s final season, and fans will undoubtedly settle on their sofas in droves to see how it ends. The exact release date is unknown after a delay due to the writer’s strike.
Damsel
Damsel is an upcoming dark fantasy movie about a beautiful young girl agreeing to marry a desirable prince, only to find she’s being set up as a sacrifice to settle a debt from centuries ago. She ends up trapped in a cave with a dragon and must escape and embark on a quest for survival. It hits Netflix in March 2024.
With Millie Bobby Brown in the eponymous role of Elodie, Damsel is sure to be a hit – and she’s also on board to executive produce it. Its hugely star-studded, talented, and versatile supporting cast includes Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Nick Robinson as the prince, Henry. Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s track record is impressive, with 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later, the acclaimed Spanish thriller Intacto, and the Oscar-nominated short Esposados on his filmography.
The Girls I’ve Been
A movie adaptation of Tess Sharpe’s 2021 thriller novel The Girls I’ve Been will be released on Netflix. The release date is unknown, but it will star Millie Bobby Brown in the lead role of Nora O’Malley. O’Malley is a con artist with talents for persuasion and impersonation who exploits criminal men for a living. She has masqueraded as many people, including her sister and ex, and she uses her skills to her advantage in life, which includes getting herself and her friends out of sticky and dangerous situations.
Sharpe’s novel is brilliant, and the role of O’Malley – a bisexual girl with many faces – will undoubtedly put Brown to the test. Little else is known about the project – neither the director, cast, or release date are confirmed – but Brown’s involvement and the fact it’s adapting a superb novel should mean it’s worth getting excited about.
The Thing About Jellyfish
Another book adaptation Millie Brown Brown will star in is a movie based on Ali Benjamin’s children’s novel The Thing About Jellyfish. Brown will portray the main character, Suzy Swanson, who has a theory that her friend, Franny Jackson, died because of a jellyfish sting. Readers have described it as heartfelt, moving, and fascinating, and how it intelligently explores themes of adolescence and the splendor of the natural world.
Reese Witherspoon is among those on board to produce the movie, and Kenyan director Wanuri Kahiu will oversee it. Kahiu’s credits include the brilliant drama From a Whisper, which won five African Movie Academy Awards. With those two on board, Brown in the starring role, and a screenplay based on such a highly acclaimed children’s novel, this is one to look out for when it gets a release date.
The Electric State
Simon Stålenhag’s dystopian sci-fi offering The Electric State is another novel adaptation in which Millie Bobby Brown will star. The graphic novel tells the story of a teenage girl and her toy robot journeying through the technologically ravaged Southwestern United States in an alternate 1997. Brown will play Michelle, the girl embarking on said journey.
Not only will this movie adapt a universally praised novel with a fabulous story, incredible imagery, and terrific overall structure, but its cast and crew are incredible. Avengers directors Anthony and Joe Russo will take charge of it. At the same time, Brown joins recent Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Chris Pratt, and Jason Alexander in the live-action cast, and Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thornton will lend their voices to it. It hits Netflix sometime in 2024.
