Before delving into everything upcoming on PlayStation next year and beyond, it’s worthwhile to take a look back at some of the recent major releases. Gamers in general have had a brilliant couple of years, with some amazing titles having been released on all platforms, and this title will explore what the next couple of years will bring to PlayStation gamers.
Horizon Forbidden West was released back in February last year; Final Fantasy XVI came out in June; and the long-awaited sequel Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was also finally released this month. Among third-party franchises, another long-awaited sequel, Alan Wake 2, was released last week, and there are a couple of more titles to look forward to this year as well.
Everything Upcoming on PlayStation Beyond Next Year
A lot of titles are lined up to release on PlayStation beyond 2024; some are still rumored, while others are confirmed to be under development. Here’s a list of all the titles based on this Reddit post.
The post contained a lot of untitled games, with several rumors having been debunked already, which have been left out of this list. It should still be advisable to take any scheduled release date, if mentioned, for an upcoming title with a pinch of salt, as they’re bound to change. Gran Turismo 8 Is Under Development and Could Be a Few Years Away From Release
Gran Turismo 7 was released just last year, and rumors have already started about the next title in the racing simulator franchise. Polyphony Studio Head, Kazunori Yamauchi, was recently asked in an interview about the next Gran Turismo title, to which he revealed that the next title is under development.
The title could still be a few years away, but it might just be worth waiting with the simulator pushing for a much better, complete VR experience.
PlayStation Studio Firesprite Aims to Bring a New Ambitious AAA Title and a Multiplayer Shooter
Fresh off the VR title Horizon Call of the Mountain that was released earlier this year, Firesprite is rumored to be working on an “ambitious, dark, narrative survival horror” AAA game. The game is codenamed “Heartbreak” at the moment, with no other details available.
Firesprite is also said to be working on a Twisted Metal game, which was hinted at after a job posting looking to hire a Principal Physics Programmer to join the early development of a “new, AAA, Unreal Engine 5 Multiplayer action game.” A Development Manager job listing also confirmed a new IP in the works, which looks to be a new multiplayer shooter title.
Team Asobi Is Working on a New Astro Title
The team behind Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, Team Asobi, is also said to be working on another title for PlayStation 5, which will be its most ambitious project yet. Team Asobi is also growing in numbers, with 60 employees said to have been working in the studio last year and aiming to reach 100 soon.
The studio aims to make the next Astro title more faithful to the Japanese game design and, just like previous titles, take full advantage of the PlayStation 5’s new DualSense controller.
Guerilla Games Working on More Horizon Titles
Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is rumored to be under development for PlayStation 5. The game is reported to include new characters, new accessibility features, and Quality of Life improvements.
An online co-op game based on Horizon is also said to be under development. This was revealed when around 12 minutes of early gameplay video was leaked on a Reddit post earlier this year, which has since been deleted. The leaked clip showcased an open-world game under development.
Guerilla Games also seemingly confirmed a new Horizon title being under development when a developer’s statement revealed that the studio is “expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.”
Team Ninja Plans to Release Rise of the Ronin Next Year
Rise of the Ronin will be an open-world action-adventure game developed by Team NINJA. The title is said to be set in Japan and features a samurai as the main character, set in the Bakumatsu period. The game looks quite similar to Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
No other details have been revealed yet, apart from the announcement itself on PlayStation’s official website.
Bend Studio Is Working on a New IP Similar to Days Gone
Back in June 2022, Bend Studio updated its studio logo while also announcing a new IP title that builds on the open-world systems of Days Gone. The game is also said to include a multiplayer mode, and as the studio mentioned, more details will be shared at the right time.
Jeff Ross, who left Bend Studio in 2020, revealed early last year that a sequel to Days Gone was reportedly rejected by Sony prior to his exit from the studio. The new IP is now said to have been under development since around the same time when the sequel was rejected, back in 2021.
Haven Studios Officially Announced Fairgame$ Earlier This Year
Haven Studios announced its upcoming title, Fairgame$, during the PlayStation Showcase event back in May of this year. The studio’s first IP is said to be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, and it is being touted as a “thrilling, competitive heist” game. The game is also said to include a “new type of PvP” and sandbox gameplay. No release date has been announced yet.
Insomniac Games Working on Wolverine IP, Open to Venom Spin-Off
A list of everything upcoming on PlayStation must contain what’s next from one of the most successful PlayStation partner studios, Insomniac Games.
Right after the release of the long-awaited sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games was known to be shifting its focus towards another Marvel game, titled Marvel’s Wolverine. The title is confirmed to be set in the same universe as the Spider-Man games, with the studio planning for either a fall 2024 or an early 2025 release schedule.
Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette had also revealed that the studio will assess fan reaction to Venom in Spider-Man 2 and will be open to bringing a Venom spin-off game if the fans warrant it.
God of War Director Working on New IP, a Sci-Fi Franchise
The studio behind one of PlayStation’s most beloved and successful franchises, God of War, is rumored to be working on a new sci-fi IP game. God of War director Cory Barlog has been said to have been busy with several projects, which were seemingly confirmed by Sony Santa Monica writer Alanah Pearce during a podcast to be a new sci-fi franchise.
Sucker Punch Working on a Multiplayer Project
While no official word has come out about official work being underway for a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, there are rumors of the sequel being under development already. Apart from that, a “spectacular multiplayer game” is also said to have been under development by the studio since 2021. The project was first hinted at through a job post by the studio that revealed a stand-alone multiplayer project.
That wraps up the details on everything upcoming on PlayStation at the time of writing, with many more unannounced titles also under development. There are several other unannounced titles that are rumored to be coming from various other PlayStation partner studios and several third-party studios as well.
For the moment, though, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 ruling PlayStation 5 users and Modern Warfare 3 coming next month, it’s fair to say gamers can stay excited about everything upcoming on PlayStation.
