At the moment, there hasn’t been a lot of information released regarding OD, but there are some very diligent fans who have been attempting to correlate all of the information that has been revealed. They have even gone as far as creating a potential timeline for when OD was planned and implemented by Kojima.

What Has Been Discovered Regarding Kojima’s OD?

Kojima's OD has players baffled and horrified.
Kojima has been planning OD for five years, and has been waiting for gaming technology to catch up.

The first thing to mention regarding Kojima’s OD is the fact that it isn’t a brand new project that only started a few months ago. This project has been on Kojima’s mind for up to 5 years, as he has been constantly thinking about this idea and how to implement it.

Over these 5 years, Kojima has been waiting for the perfect moment to begin developing this ambitious project, as he traveled to numerous major companies, pitching this idea, until the right company shared his thoughts on the project.

Finally, Kojima found a company that shared his vision regarding OD, with Microsoft, the developers of the Xbox console. It will work in collaboration with Kojima to create this title, as it appears that this upcoming horror game will be a cloud project and will create a whole new format for gaming.

Since cloud gaming is becoming more and more popular, it makes sense that Kojima is looking towards utilizing this feature and creating a whole new experience within this format. This explains why it has been on his mind for so long, as he has had to wait for the technology to advance enough to create the project in a meaningful way.

At the moment, we do not know many details regarding OD, or what kind of format it will take place in, but according to Kojima, it will be a mixture of both film and game. As the project progresses, we will know more, but for now, we only know that Kojima is looking to push the boundaries of both gaming and film media. OD will hopefully bring a whole new format for both media to utilize, and could pave a new path forward.

Kojima's OD has players baffled and horrified.
Gamers are both excited and horrified by Kojima’s OD.

When discussing the OD project, Kojima has described it as similar to an indie game, and it won’t be a very large game. This could mean that it most likely won’t be open-world, or at least won’t be a very large open-world game.

However, regarding the horror aspect of OD, Kojima has been rather secretive, as gamers have been aware for a long time that he has looked towards creating a horror title, and players received a small glimpse of that in the game P.T.

Even though players saw what Kojima could do with just a playable teaser, they are rather scared to think about what he can do with a game that is titled Overdose. It has been described as a game that will cause players to OD on horror, but won’t be so scary that players will stop playing.

At the moment, we know Kojima has already been working on gathering an A-team to work on this project, as he has begun gathering cast members with some amazing acting prowess. He has even joined up with actor and director, Jordan Peele, for this project. Kojima mentioned he is still looking for people to work with, and is searching for the “seven samurai” who will be storytellers of great renown, and who will bring a whole new level of story to OD.

Until another trailer is released, or a member of the OD team releases an announcement, there isn’t much more information to go on. Kojima has kept incredibly quiet regarding this upcoming horror experience, and for now, it looks like the secrets will continue to go silent.
