Evil Dead’s Switch Version Killed Off by Developer

Evil Dead: The Game for Nintendo Switch isn’t going to be a thing, and that’s something we’ll have to live with. Saber has announced that they will no longer be bringing new content to the game and removing Nintendo Switch’s version from their vision altogether. It’s a bummer, especially since the game was released just a year ago in May. However, this is not a decision that will hinder the game’s existing online experience. Players can continue to enjoy the thrill of surviving in the popular game’s universe.

We speculate a few reasons for this unfortunate decision by Saber. Part of the downfall can be blamed on the lack of hype created within the community. As of late, it’s been a struggle for most survival-based games to stand out since there’s a huge competition, and many games are free-to-play. Secondly, this isn’t the first time we’ve faced pessimism regarding Evil Dead: The Game’s Switch release. The game has been delayed several times in the past, leading to the hype eventually fizzling out.

As of 2023, the game’s peak player count has hit more than a million active players. It’s safe to admit that the game has garnered enough love from its fans to stay in the community’s conversations. Evil Dead: The Game’s core gameplay is riddled with things to learn and explore, making the best of gore, familiar horror tropes and all sorts of evil to be wary of.

Based on the original series, the game lets players take on iconic settings as they experience the world from the role of popular characters (like Ash Williams). The game stays fresh with versatile gameplay, playable from the point of view of distinguishable groups of characters like Hunters, Survivors, Leaders, Warriors and more. Even though new content releases will end, Evil Dead: The Game’s current player base will keep showing an interest in the asymmetrical survivor horror trip.

Evil Dead: The Game’s Nintendo Switch version cancelled – should Switch fans be worried?

Evil Dead - the survivors.

The cancelled version of the game might just be the right decision. Okay, hear us out – with the latest release of Mortal Kombat 1’s Switch version, Nintendo fans have all the right to be worried about future AAA titles and games that are to be ported to the 6-year-old device. While six years isn’t a huge time-lapse for modern devices, the Switch’s foundation simply isn’t meant to support newer titles that are heavy on the graphics/performance front.

Evil Dead: The Game is a graphically impressive title that runs like a charm on PC and modern-gen consoles. A half-baked release on Switch that runs poorly would have been a bigger failure than the developers cancelling the launch entirely. We want to put our faith in Saber’s decision and look forward to the game’s existing popularity as it thrives in the years to come.
