Dolph Lundgren has come a long way from Rocky IV. Having starred with Sylvester Stallone in numerous movies, Lundgren has made a name for himself as a formidable action hero with several acclaimed action roles under his belt. Recently back in another action thriller film, Wanted Man, he even directed the film.
Despite taking on numerous roles and creative projects, the actor’s collaborations with Stallone remain forever iconic, making fans want to see more of the duo. Last seen in Expendables 4, Lundgren, in a recent interview, revealed that he would be willing to return to the franchise on one condition, despite actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger leaving the franchise.

Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone have been friends for a long time. After years of collaboration which started with Rocky IV, they were last seen in the critically panned film, Expendables 4. The film, despite being one of the most anticipated films, was regarded by many as the worst film of the entire franchise.
While Lundgren regarded the absence of Stallone’s involvement as the cause of its failure, he also revealed his one condition to return to a potential Expendables 5 in a new interview with Screen Rant. Although it is widely believed that the franchise’s main star will not be returning in the franchise, as he hinted in an Instagram post, Lundgren was asked if he would be willing to come back in such a film if Stallone came back and he answered,
“Yeah, if Sly’s in charge, I think he’s working on his version of another chapter with these guys. If he’s in charge, then yeah, I’m sure it would be fun to work on it.”
Also revealing that Stallone is in fact working on another film for the franchise, Lundgren’s confession has stirred up another round of debates of whether there should be a fifth Expendables or not thanks to the absence of actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger (via X).
Reason Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Was Not In Expendables 4
The first Expendables was a big shocker thanks to its brilliant ensemble of cast which also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fans of both Stallone and the Terminator star were elated to witness the two action powerhouses of Hollywood stars together in an equally amazing action film.
Schwarzenegger later also returned in the sequel and the threequel, despite many actors dropping out or some new actors rejoining the cast (via Screen Rant). However, despite the fourth part being a miserable disappointment, Schwarzenegger’s absence was truly felt by many.
While talking to Parade, he revealed the real reason why he did the three movies and why he never returned for the fourth part.
“I did it [Expendables] as a favor to Sly. I shot it on a Saturday for two hours quickly in a church with Bruce Willis. Sly said, ‘Oh, can you do Expendables 2?’ and I did that for a weekend. Then it was expanded for Expendables 3. And that was it.”
Revealing that his co-star and former rival perfectly understood his sentiments, Schwarzenegger admitted he would love to star with Stallone again.
While the first three Expendables are available to stream on Netflix, the fourth part can be rented on YouTube.
