Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Infinity War is right up there with some of the best superhero films made to this date. Therefore it’s obvious that Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the Avengers would want to commemorate the film.

It was the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War and the main Avengers decided they had to do something special to honor the day. Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson came up with the idea of getting a matching Avengers tattoo with the rest of the main Avengers. While everyone from Chris Evans to Chris Hemsworth agreed to do so, Mark Ruffalo decided to opt out of the plan.

Robert Downey Jr. recalled this moment during an interview with WIRED when asked about how many tattoos he has. Downey replied,

“I have six. That’s the sixth one and that was the Avengers cast tattoo that happened the evening of the premiere for Infinity War. Scarlett got it first, then Chris Evans got it, then I got it, then Jeremy Renner got it, then Chris Hemsworth got it, even though he was a little tentative about it and seemed to overreact to the pain. And then Mark Ruffalo said, ‘I’m not getting that tattoo. I don’t wana be part of your Hollywood inside game,’ to which I applauded him. F*ck you, Mark!”

Clearly, Downey has not forgotten this betrayal from Ruffalo as the memory still seems to be fresh in his mind. Ruffalo on the other hand, went on to feel a bit left out later.

What made Ruffalo walk away from the above-mentioned team-building exercise? Well, the answer is quite simple – he was afraid of needles! Yes, no matter how funny it sounds that the actor playing the toughest, baddest superhero of all time would be afraid of needles, it is the honest truth.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ruffalo stated,

“I didn’t get a tattoo. I opted out of the tattoo. It’s not over yet. There’s still another movie! First of all, I’m afraid of needles. So, there’s that. But, also, I’ve kind of got a punk rock soul. And I felt like, [deepens his voice], ‘Dude, everyone has tattoos. I’m going to be punk rock and not get the tattoo! That’s radical, right? That is so rebellious!”

Ruffalo then revealed that he is building the courage to get the tattoo as he feels left out. He stated, “Honestly, I feel left out and I’m working up the courage to get needled.” However, the Dark Waters actor and Jimmy Fallon soon came to the conclusion that he does not need a tattoo to prove anything and that he will always be a part of the Avengers family. Couldn’t have said it better!
