Fallout Season 2 Theory Hints the Deadliest 5th Major Faction is Hiding in Plain Sight

Jonathan Nolan’s Fallout adaptation is a success for many reasons, the least of all being its unique sense of identity separate from the games despite being true to the source material in every respect. It is this individuality of the Amazon original series that allows some room for creative liberty while Nolan and his writers’ room build a megalomaniacal post-apocalyptic world spread over the vast wasteland of America.

Before veteran gamers and inexperienced fans flock to Amazon to tout their opinion on the adaptation, it might be wise to learn about the true extent of what Nolan has in store for his viewers. A Reddit fan theory that has recently been making the rounds might just shock some Fallout loyalists into a state of awe for its M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist waiting in the wings of the series’ Season 2.

Fallout Season 2 Theory Introduces an Old Foe Into the Mix

The nuclear wasteland has been divvied up into factions from coast to coast and the great American dream is officially dead. When Fallout draws the curtains back from its idyllic underground society to give the viewers a real look into the grimy clutches of the shadowy underworld – it is already a foregone conclusion that the Powers That Be are already in play to gain control over whatever remains of the once great nation. But now, a fan theory posted on the Fallout subreddit brings some crucial information into light, making the Amazon series a high-risk, high-reward project with stakes so dire that it could forever change the genre of video game adaptations.

According to the theory, there could be a major faction already in play that was operating in the background all along without common knowledge. When fans are first introduced to the show’s West Coast Brotherhood of Steel, we notice the old-world fanatical belief system that guides their organization with medieval concepts of knights and squires and robed clerics resembling Roman philosophers and theologists. All of it subtly points towards a system of Latin/Roman order of established structure that could have a far deeper meaning than simple superficial coincidence.

The theory by OmegaSpartan256 posits:

“The West Coast Brotherhood “synthesized” and combined with Caesar’s Legion. Maximus? Titus? Thaddeus? Quintus? All names you’d hear assigned to Legion raised individuals. In older games, members would have either regular American sounding names or older names like Rhombus (FO1), Ashur (FO3), and Cyrus (FO:BOS). They were never Latin/Roman, they would always be other kinds of languages like Greek, Sumerian, and Persian origin.”

Moreover, the theory adds, “Just like how the Legion erased identities of the tribes it would conquer, the Brotherhood erased the Legion but only in name. They retained a lot of what the Legion would be known for or at least would very likely accept as customs.” 

Through the haze of post-apocalyptic nightmares, one hardly pays much attention to little details like the flag of the West Coast Brotherhood. One can hardly get more obvious with the Caesar’s Legion reference than painting it red and gold – a straight digression from the games that directly links to the color-coding in the emblem of Caesar’s Legion. The only other plausible theory for such a radical change is that they did it for the aesthetics and that is hardly an excuse that a studio can stand behind if it was ever questioned.

What Caesar’s Legion Could Mean for Fallout Season 2

A ruthless, sadistic, and pathologically criminal stronghold, Caesar’s Legion was already a feared organization at the height of its tyranny. But the fan theory’s new revelation suggests that the Legion has always been operating in the background, never relinquishing control, and like cockroaches in the event of a nuclear fallout, only evolved and grew stronger while staying in the shadows.

Fallout Season 2 could introduce Caesar’s Legion as the fifth faction after Season 1 already placed the Raiders, the Brotherhood of Steel, the New California Republic, and the Enclave on the chess board. With the warring factions at each other’s throats now more than ever, the resurrection of Caesar’s Legion could either bring them together in a last stand against their common enemy or further break them apart under the deluge of panic-induced paranoia.
