Franchises like Fallout are now considered classics, with many considering them to be their earliest memories of enjoying video games. The very first game in the series was released in 1997, and while we have had modern entries in the series, there’s no doubt fans would like to revisit the original.

Many studios are looking at remasters and remakes as a great way to utilize an existing IP and bring in a large audience. So, here are five classic games that would really benefit from the modern remake treatment!

5. Metal Gear Solid (1998)

If there is ever a conversation regarding stealth action games, that talk is never complete without mentioning one of the many games in the Metal Gear Solid series. Hideo Kojima may not have known that he was creating history when he first took on the project, but the game went on to become one of the best releases of that year.

Even though the game was released on what is now considered dated hardware, Kojima managed to fit a lot of innovative ideas into the experience. From leaving footprints in the snow to distract guards to a sneeze giving away your position, there was a lot of stuff in the game that just wasn’t present in other titles.

Konami is looking to reignite interest in the series with Metal Gear Solid: Delta, but fans must wonder how the series is going to fare without Kojima’s leadership. But the company has the potential to add to Kojima’s creation while adjusting some aspects of it for modern sensibilities.

4. Dino Crisis (1999)

When gamers think of a game from the mind of Shinji Mikami that deserves a remake, most would likely point to the very first Resident Evil. However, there is another horror game from the director that is well-loved but doesn’t get the same time in the spotlight: Dino Crisis.

The game featured many of the same mechanics from the 1996 zombie horror title but switched the slow and shambling corpses for far more mobile and deadly enemies. Fans who enjoyed the resource management of Resident Evil, along with the tight camera angles and feeling of claustrophobia, immediately took to the gameplay of Dino Crisis.

A remake would breathe new life into a series that has otherwise been left on the wayside. A recent survey even revealed that Dino Crisis is one of the top Capcom games fans want to see remade for modern consoles.

The series has five games in total, with the first being the most iconic of the entire franchise. While choosing to remake the entire series may be a tall order, Capcom has experience with creating remakes from previous Resident Evil titles and would gain a lot of goodwill among fans.

Before Sucker Punch was known for Ghost of Tsushima, it was known for the inFAMOUS series. But even that isn’t their first title, as the studio first appeared on the gaming scene with a thieving rodent and his friends. Sly Raccoon was a big hit when it was first released on the PlayStation 2.

The first Sly Raccoon game was not only a fun mission-based adventure, but it also presented the player with a compelling story, interesting characters, and a universe that seemed promising. No wonder three more games were added to the series after the first!

While Sly Raccoon and the Thievius Raccoonus is now available on the PlayStation Store, fans are still awaiting a proper remaster or even a remake of this title. While they would undoubtedly be happier with a remake collection of all three original titles as a set, even doing the first one would be enough to keep their hopes alive for subsequent remakes in the future.

2. Manhunt (2007)

Rockstar’s currently busy putting the finishing touches on Grand Theft Auto 6, but the studio has several titles under its belt that are just begging for a remake. While the original Red Dead Revolver, Grand Theft Auto, and Max Payne can all be considered, there is another, more violent title that fans would love to see brought to the modern gaming generation: Manhunt.

While many claim the second game is a better entry in the series thanks to a wider variety of execution styles, the first has a degree of brutality that the second is unable to match. The ideal scenario would be for Rockstar to take the best aspects of both and release a Manhunt remake that blends their combined strengths.

It would also fit right into the slew of horror game remakes, even though this one takes a far more action-stealth approach in a genre that’s usually about running or gunning. As a person trapped in an asylum with other psychopaths, your job is to escape and take down anyone standing in your path.

With the likes of the Dead Space remake showing us how modern gaming technology can push visceral action, Manhunt would be easily one of the most graphic games to be remade, if the project ever goes through.

1. Fallout: New Vegas (2010)

Easily considered by many in the community to be the best game in the franchise, Fallout: New Vegas made some very different decisions as compared to the other games in the series. The first and most distinct differentiation is that the player does not control a Vault Dweller in this title but rather a courier out for revenge.

This changes the entire dynamic of the story, as it goes from being that of a character exploring the world to a veteran of the wasteland seeking retribution. Aside from the story, many fans claim the decisions the player made in New Vegas felt more meaningful than those made in other titles.

The game also adopted the most important feature of the franchise: player freedom. Gamers could approach almost all of the missions as they wished, discovering new strategies to complete the objectives. A ground-up remake of the game would be a big undertaking for whichever studio attempts it. But, if done correctly, it could be considered one of the best games to be remade in a long time.

Which classic game would you like to see remade from the ground up? Let us know in the comments below!
