Even though Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland are considered to be the best actors to ever portray the roles of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, for every 2000s kid, Tobey Maguire is the original Web-Slinger. Mostly because it was his original trilogy that became wildly popular, it developed the need for more superhero films on the big screen.
However, Maguire did not become synonymous with the role because he was the first one to play the character, but his trilogy was full of iconic characters and moments. One of the most iconic scenes from the third sequel was the Bully Maguire dance, which became a part of pop culture, leading to the origin of hilarious memes around the world.
Hence, when My Deer Friend Nokotan decided to add a reference from the 2007 film, fans of Maguire and the anime were quick to sing its praise on social media!
Fans Hail My Deer Friend Nokotan As the GOATed Anime
Fans of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy would remember that it featured Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker in the first two films, and for some part in the third film, he was showcased as a shy and innocent guy, saving the day as the Web-Slinger.
However, once he merged with the symbiote, he became a menace, which introduced the ‘Bully Maguire’ meme in pop culture. This alter ego of Parker is a treat to the eyes, and his iconic dance remains unforgettable.
Hence, when My Deer Friend Nokotan decided to feature a reference to the iconic scene, fans were quick to take to social media and praise the slice-of-life, among jokes and memes, calling it “anime of the decade.”

Even though the dance scene has been described as the most iconic scene in the entire trilogy, the Pawn Sacrifice actor was initially extremely pessimistic about his dance scene in the third film.
Spider-Man 3’s Choreographer Recalls Tobey Maguire’s Pessimistic Opinion About His Viral Scene
Even though the dance scene from the third sequel has gone down as one of the most iconic and meme-worthy scenes, Maguire was initially extremely hesitant about dancing on the streets of New York.
While talking to the Huff Post, Pomerhn Derricks, the choreographer of the film, stated that the dance scene “turned him off.” She said,
When I got Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire, I remember meeting with him and Sam Raimi, and Tobey did not want to dance. There was this whole breakdancing scene that turned him off. I was developing this number and bringing in all these head-spinners to be his body doubles, and Tobey was negative, negative, negative.
However, the choreographer ultimately managed to convince the actor, stating that Heath Ledger started a trend with these classic moves and that he would also start a trend, which would make him look so cool. She added,
So one day I went to his house, and I started showing him Fred Astaire stuff, and that’s what we ended up doing for Spider-Man 3. But it was because of Heath [Ledger that] I told Tobey, ‘You doing it is not going to age you.
You’re just going to make these classic moves fresh and hip and new.’ Watching Heath do that in the stands, that’s exactly what he did. In his youth and his fearlessness, he made them look so cool.
Indeed, Derricks was correct because, even after 17 years of its release, the scene looks fresh like it was only yesterday. Though the film received mixed opinions, fans are united on how fusing Venom with Parker led to one of the most iconic characters of all time.
Spider-Man 3 can be streamed on Disney+.
