Needless to say, Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated movies of this year, if not the most. However, amidst the hype for the film which brings both Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU officially, lies yet another Hugh Jackman film that should be recognized. The film in question is A24’s upcoming masterpiece, The Death of Robin Hood which follows a similar theme to that of Logan (2017).

At the Cannes market, A24 battled for the U.S. rights to The Death of Robin Hood and emerged victorious in a competitive environment. According to Variety, the negotiations were very cut-throat as many potential buyers were circling the film like sharks around their prey. Clearly, there is something about the upcoming film that entertainment companies do not want to miss out on.

The film is directed by Michael Sarnoski who is responsible for directing films like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. It stars Jackman and Jodie Comer in the lead roles and according to the official logline, the film will see the iconic Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Furthermore, he will be “gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.”

In short, The Death of Robin Hood is about an aging Robin Hood who is burdened by his past and will encounter a woman who will help him attain salvation. Doesn’t this plot sound a little familiar to another Jackman film that was released in 2017? The film that we are talking about is none other than the iconic Logan which also saw an aged Logan battling with the demons of his past when Laura (Dafne Keen) helps him see the light.

After hearing about the news of A24 buying the U.S. rights to the film, fans couldn’t be happier. They praised the company for always going all out with their projects and giving their audience something new every time. For example, the company’s recent films like The Iron Claw, The Zone of Interest, and Civil War have been quite appreciated by both fans and critics. Not to mention that their 2019 film Midsommar was a work of art and has been a fan-favorite since then. A24 is also working on a biographical sports drama film, The Smashing Machine based on former wrestler Mark Kerr’s life. Dwayne Johnson will be playing the lead role in the film.

However, while many are incredibly excited to see how the film unfolds and gives a new look to Robin Hood, others couldn’t help but notice the similarities between it and Logan. Someone even called it “Logan but with men in tights”! Now that’s what you call an analogy.

Here’s how fans reacted to the news:

Needless to say, A24 seems to have hit the jackpot by acquiring the film’s rights! Production on The Death of Robin Hood will begin in 2025 which means there is still a long way to go before we see Jackman and Comer in action. The best part is that the film will be released theatrically giving fans a chance to watch the masterpiece unfold on the big screen.

Logan is available to stream on Disney+ and Deadpool & Wolverine be released in theatres on July 26, 2024.
