Over the past few years, the number of games focusing on co-op multiplayer format has considerably increased. The growing popularity of multiplayer could somewhere be credited to the way recent games like Helldivers 2 and Diablo 4 have presented the format.
Naturally, a lot of upcoming games will look to adopt this formula and attract a greater audience, including the anticipated Far Cry game. Speaking of the Far Cry franchise at large, co-op is not alien to the series. In fact, it has been regularly featured in multiple games. However, there is a high chance that developer Ubisoft could expand even further on the multiplayer element in the upcoming Far Cry 7 game.
Far Cry 7 to have a rumored Countdown Timer
One of the most buzzing rumors about Far Cry 7 is the inclusion of a 72-hour in-game countdown timer. This timer is believed to bring more ramifications to multiplayer gameplay as compared to single-player. This indicates that the developers are trying to make Far Cry 7 would be more enjoyable in groups.
Far Cry 6 also had a co-op multiplayer campaign wherein players could normally play with friends. It included the usual multiplayer elements except the ranked leaderboards. Besides, in spite of the presence of co-op campaigns and competitive multiplayer in previous Far Cry games, several fans choose to enjoy them solo.

If Far Cry 7′s countdown timer rumors are to be believed, it is fair for Ubisoft to shift their focus more towards online than ever before.
So far, not a lot about Far Cry 7‘s development has been officially revealed. Whatever information is available is from rumors and leaks. If the rumored countdown timer is truly added, it will open a new possibility of challenge among players.
Besides, it won’t be surprising to see Ubisoft implement the countdown timer with a leaderboard wherein the best times recorded by players would be auto-updated.
How solo gameplay will suffer?
Needless to say, amidst this, the solo playing experience would be compromised if not neglected completely. One aspect in particular that would suffer the most in solo play is map exploration. The Far Cry franchise has in the past given fans some of the most aesthetic and breath-taking visuals. This includes the futuristic depiction of 2007 through a VHS-styled 80’s POV in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as well as Kyrat’s rich depiction of the Himalayas in Far Cry 4.
If the countdown timer is implemented in Far Cry 7, it means players will be more caught up in completing the game’s objectives as fast as possible. This will leave little or no time for them to explore the lush sceneries and fascinating landscapes, something that the Far Cry franchise is known for.
That being said, it does not mean there won’t be room for exploration at all. Even if there is a time in place, the devs could potentially add a feature where the time mode can be turned off. This will still leave space for the single-player to be the main draw for Far Cry, as it has always been.
